Posted 11/18/09 Etta Dumas Allen Funeral services for Etta Dumas Allen, 81, of Baton Rouge, were held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at First Zion Baptist Church in Winnsboro. Burial followed at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Allen died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at Our Lake of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Survivors include her son, Cornelius N. Allen Jr., Baton Rouge; daughters: Barbara A. Dickerson, Shelia Ann Allen and Connie Allen Shaw, all of Baton Rouge; sisters: Bernice Mitchell and Margie Lee Watkins, both of Winnsboro; 11 grandchildren and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Dorsey, Kenneth Kelly, Monearl Robinson, Brandon Johnson, Ricky Kelly, Tommy Robinson, Edward Watkins Jr., Eddie Lee Jordan, Carlos Robinson, and Buck Shaw Jr.
Eloise Boothe Funeral service for Eloise Boothe, 80, of Wisner were held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at Wisner First Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Peoples officiating. Burial followed in Oakley Cemetery near Gilbert under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. Boothe was born to Robert O. and Ardis Lenora Fleming Thompson on Aug. 18, 1929 in Swartz and passed from this life Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 in West Monroe. Mrs. Boothe was a member of Wisner First Baptist Church. She retired as cafeteria manager at Wisner High and Elementary Schools. She was known by her many friends and loving family as a caring person who took great joy in "doing for others." She leaves behind five children: Deia Lea Langston and husband Richard of Brazoria, Texas, Danny Boothe of Pineville, Robert Boothe and wife Jennifer of Zachary, Johnny Boothe and wife Susan of Winnsboro, and Lenora Wooten and husband Phil of Lafayette; two brothers: Forrest Thompson and Willard Thompson and wife Evelyn both of Alabama; and one sister Hettie Dampier of Wisner. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Daniel, Michael, Michelle, Terri, Robert Jr., John; Mary, Will, Jim and Lyle; several great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Thaddeus Edwards Sr. Funeral services for Thaddeus Edwards Sr., 75, of Wisner were held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winnsboro. Mr. Edwards, a high school boys basketball coach, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Edwards, Wisner; son, Thaddeus Edwards Jr., Wisner; daughter, Monique Edwards, Houston, Texas; brother, Thomas Guilfo, Houston, Texas; sisters: Alberta Williams, Richmond, Calif.; Geraldine and Jim Chaffers of Ann Arbor, Mich.; three grandchildren: Ashley Edwards, Domonique Gibson and Kane Smith. Davis Glenn Ferrington Funeral service for David Glenn Ferrington, 60, of Chase were held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Turkey Baptist Church near Gilbert with Rev. Jerry Hunt Sr. and Rev. Don Blackmon officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. He was born to Oree and Vonda Sales Ferrington on Sept. 24, 1949 in Wisner and passed from this life Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers: Leslie Wayne Ferrington and Cecil Ray Ferrington. Mr. Ferrington was an avid deer hunter. He loved to sit in the woods and enjoy nature. He owned and operated Ferrington's Garage and 4 Wheel Drive Center for ten years in Chase. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. As a hobby, Glenn loved to work on antique cars. He was in the process of rebuilding two '55 Chevy's. He was a farmer for over 25 years. Above all, he was a beloved husband, father, "papaw", son, brother and friend. He will be missed by his wife of 41 years Carolyn Ferrington of Chase; son Joey Ferrington and wife Misty of Gilbert; mother Vonda Ferrington of Winnsboro; brother Barney Ferrington of Jigger; three grandchildren Lindsey Ferrington and fiance' Nick Mullican, Kelsey Ferrington and Karley Ferrington; several other relatives and many friends. Benjy LaBorde Mr. Benjy LaBorde, 73, of Gilbert, an iron worker in construction, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009. A funeral services was held Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home. Burial followed at Harris Cemetery.
Madie Arnold Ezell Funeral services for Madie Arnold Ezell, 95, of Gilbert, were held at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, with Rev. Bobby Ensminger officiating. Burial followed at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Ezell was born June 27, 1914 outside Gilbert, and passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center. She was one of 10 children born to Carrie Evelyn and Richard V. Arnold. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and eight siblings leaving one surviving brother, R. V. Arnold Jr. She was also preceded in death by her husband Willie L. Ezell Sr. and two sons Willie L. Ezell Jr. "Billy" and Donald W. Ezell; one granddaughter, Donna Lynn Ezell. She was a resident of Gilbert, homemaker, and a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. She worked in all areas of the church all her life still teaching Sunday School until the age of 92. She owned and operated a restaurant in Wisner for approximately 10 years at which time she purchased and operated a Retail Dry Goods known as Mai Dees until her retirement at 68. Survivors include five children: Gay Hall of Colulmbia; Ann Hilbun and husband Lionel Bee of Gilbert; Lee Ezell and wife Tommalynn of Gilbert; Nancy Burnthorn and husband Kelly of Sumerduck, Va.; and Flo Ferrington and husband John of Wisner;13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Wesley McManus A celebration of the life of Wesley McManus, a retired teacher were held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church Gilbert with the Rev's. Jerry Goodman and Dale Goodman officiating. Burial followed at South Central Cemetery near Wisner under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Mr. McManus was born on April 5, 1945 and crossed Jordan on Nov. 10, 2009. He was born and reared in Gilbert, Louisiana and made his home in West Monroe after obtaining his degree from ULM. As a teacher, he touched countless lives of students and colleagues alike. His love and support of family and friends, his love of sports and outdoor life, the anxious awaiting of his first grandchild, and his countless talents meshed to form his most unique personality. He was known for his quick wit, gift for gab, and his love of the past. His absence will forever alter our lives. He leaves to treasure the memory of his boundless love, two daughters, Jennie Dawsey and husband Cory of Ruston; Stacy Dans and husband Nathan of West Monroe; parents Audrey and Ray McManus of Gilbert; two sisters, Susan Britt and husband Ty of Gilbert; Sandra Parker and husband Perry of Winnsboro; one nephew, Kevin Bass and wife Leanne; one great-grand nephew Ethan Bass; one great-niece, Stephanie Bass-Knox; one great-grand nephew, Kolten Jordan-Bass; and special cousins: Portia Graney and Donald McManus, all of Winnsboro. Mr. Smith was born on Feb. 18, 1938 in Delhi, and passed away on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at Delhi Hospital. He was a resident of Winnsboro, a retired mechanic for Holsum Bakery in Monroe. He loved to mow and enjoyed working in the garden and riding grandkids on his golf cart. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Charles and Nina J. Smith; one brother, Charles W. Smith; one sister, Ethel J. Smith Geddis.
