11/17/09 Allen Scott Knight A memorial service for Mr. Allen Scott "Scotty" Knight, 53, of Gilbert, was held Sunday Nov. 8, 2009, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist church of Winnsboro. Reverends John Albright and Johnny Hankins officiated. A gathering will be held on Saturday Nov. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Gill First National Funeral Home. Scotty was born on Dec. 18, 1955, in Winnsboro, and passed away after a lengthy illness at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009. He was a member of the Winnsboro First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. A graduate of Franklin Academy and Louisiana Tech University, he preformed in several summer productions at The Princess Theatre, which nominated him in 2008 for the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council's Volunteer of the Year. He was known for his love and kindness, and happily shared his time and culinary skills with the community. "Chef Scotty" was an ardent baseball and football fan and cheered on the Tech Bulldogs, LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie. Scotty is survived by his wife, Kay, his stepdaughter, Adrienne Gardner LaFrance, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. L. W. Knight, Winnsboro, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Andy Zwyicki, Winnsboro, Katherine and Tom Bowen, Point, Texas, and Krista and Cary McGuffee, Sterlington, as well as several nieces, and many special friends and loved ones throughout the community. Grady Durward McCalman Grady Durward McCalman, 90, passed away at his home on Oct. 14, 2009. He was born in Shreveport on Oct. 24, 1919, and moved to Montgomery, Ala. in 1945, after returning from WWII. He retired from Regions Bank in 1984 and then joined the staff at Frazer Memorial Methodist Church doing what he loved, ìcookingî for the next 18 years. He was a member of the Downtown Optimist Club and president in 1979-1980, 1983-1984. Mr. McCalman was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Fuller; his father, Grady Roy McCalman; his son, John McCalman; and his sister, Evelyn Cline Hodges. He is survived by his wife, Joy Langford McCalman, the love of his life for 60 years; son, Ron McCalman and wife Ellen; daughter, Connie Thompson; daughter-in-law, Phyllis McCalman; grandchildren: Ron McCalman, Christy McCalman, April Milby, Amy Castleberry, Tiffany Wilkes; great-grandchildren: Porter McCalman, Janie Szoboszlay, Payton, Cole and Cameron Milby; Kaitlyn and Allison Castleberry; Brooklyn Wilkes; sisters: Ellene Graham, Loyce Bankard; brothers: George McCalman, Bobby McCalman, Glenn D. Molly Huff Korn Funeral services for Mollie Huff Korn, 77, of Gilbert, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, with Rev. Doyle Adams officiating. Burial followed at Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Youngís Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Korn was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Baskin, and passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at her residence in Gilbert. She had been the owner-operator of the City Cafe and Village Kitchen of Crowville. She loved sitting on her porch watching the squirrels and hummingbirds. She was preceded in death by her father, Rufus Cupit; mother, Nell (Duchesne) Cupit; brother, Buddy Cupit; sister, Dovie Cupit. Maggie Stephens Funeral services for Maggie Stephens, age 86, resident of Plantation Manor Nursing Home, Winnsboro, a former resident of Wisner and of West Monroe, were held Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 at 2 p.m., at South Central Baptist Church of Wisner, with Bro. Mike Thompson, Bro. Booty Garlington, and Bro. T.J. Boyd officiating. Burial was held at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Maggie died Nov. 7, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Union Church, MS. Her parents were Roy and Lucy Smith McKee. She was a housewife and mother always putting her family first. Maggie was a member of South Central Baptist Church where she taught the Beginners class in Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoying a good laugh with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nick Stephens, son John Michael Stephens, grandsons, Stephen Mark McCartney and Stephen Michael Smith, great grandson Noah Palmer Hearn, son-in-law Don Chesney, brothers Ed and Roscoe McKee and sisters, Frankie Mather, Haven Hemphill, and Ethel Hemphill. Mr. Nichols was born Nov. 11, 1951 in Winnsboro, and passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at his residence in Winnsboro. He was a cattle farmer, and a member of the Apostolic faith. He was a member of the LA Cattleman Association and a lifetime member of Beefmasters Breeders United. He served in the U. S. Army as a Military Police. He was preceded in death by his mother, Arrabella (Bruce) Nichols; two brothers: Robert Lee Nichols and Donnie Ray Nichols; sister, Margaret Ann Nichols. Air Force after serving 23 years of devoted service to his country. He is preceded in death by his father and one brother Claude Butler.
