Clara S. Brown
Services for Clara S. Brown, age 96, of Winnsboro, were held Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro with Dr. Bill Robertson officiating, assisted by Rev. Jason Foster. Burial followed in New Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Brown passed away at her home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009. She had been a resident of Winnsboro for 76 years. She and Marion Floyd Brown had a successful grocery store, "Brown's Grocery" from October 18, 1939 until July 31, 1966, a total of 27 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Floyd Brown; her parents: James Henry Shepherd and Pearl Fulford Shepherd; her sisters: Sally Mulhearn, Mattie Boies; her brothers: John Henry Shepherd, Arthur Shepherd, Carl Shepherd, Rev. Jimmy Shepherd; and daughter-in-law: Mildred Foy Brown.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Rev. Bobby Brown and wife Faye Strahan Brown of West Monroe; grandchildren: Rev. Alan Brown and wife Donna Elliott Brown, Missionaries in Mexico; Blendia Ann Taylor and husband Charlie Taylor of Sallisaw, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Chrissie Casscio and husband Casey of Bossier City; Casey Brown of Bossier City; Ryan Taylor of Sallisaw, Okla.; great-great-grandchildren: Shelby Chelette of Bossier City; Isabella Maria Casscio of Bossier City; Alexus Taylor of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bob Nelson, Casey Brown, Ryan Taylor, Wayne Free, Timothy McBroom, Andy McBroom and David McBroom.

Olivia Erwin
Funeral services for Olivia Erwin, 80, of Jigger, will be held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home today (Wednesday), Nov. 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Doyle Adams and Charles Dixon officiating.
Burial will follow at Fort Necessity Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mrs. Erwin was born March 14, 1929, in Franklin Parish, and passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at Richardson Medical Center in Rayville. She was a resident of Jigger, a homemaker, and a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Whit Erwin; father, R.C. Perry; mother, Mary (Juneau) Perry; two sons, Richard Whit and Earnest Deville; and brother, J.C. Perry.
Survivors include four sons: John Erwin and wife Julia of Denham Springs; Eddie Erwin and wife Judy, Lelan Erwin and wife Wanda, Bruce Erwin and wife Ronnie, all of Winnsboro; two daughters: Beverly Anne Chambers and husband, Donnie of Henderson, MN; Pamela Mahoney and husband Daren of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Linda Erwin, Duson, La.; four sisters: Lela Mae Dunn, Crowville; Mamie Ratcliff, Geneva Ellerbe and Daisy Mason, all of Sicily Island; two sisters-in-law: Betty Jean Dixon of Seminole, Texas, and Louise Erwin, Winnsboro; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Frank Montano "Jr.", Whit Erwin, Morrell Erwin, Jeremiah Erwin, Randy Chambers, and John Bonner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Erwin, Jason Chambers, Joe Erwin, and Fallon Erwin.

Carol Eskew
A memorial service for Carol Eskew, 60, of Gilbert, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, with Rev. Wayne Stroud and Rev. John Albright officiating.
A private graveside service was held at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Eskew was born Feb. 12, 1949 in Winnsboro, and passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Richardson Medical Center in Rayville. She was a resident of Gilbert, a child nutritionist with the Franklin Parish School Board for 36 years, and a member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of both the National and Louisiana School Food Services Associations. She has served as a president of the Louisiana School Food Service Association.
She was preceded in death by a special niece, Carrie Hatton; and father-in-law, Aubrey Eskew.
Survivors include her husband, Carey Duke Eskew, Gilbert; parents, Wiggins R. and Frances (Daley) Hatten; mother-in-law, Irene Eskew; stepson, Carey Michael Eskew and wife Lisa of Forest Hills, La.; stepdaughter, Shelley Varnado and husband Rusty of Covington, La.; two daughters: Amanda Richmond and husband Mark of Gilbert; Ashley Smith and husband Peyton of Winnsboro; two brothers: Billy Dan Hatton and wife Joe of Dexter, Mo.; Bobby Hatton and wife Cynthia of Ten Mile, Tenn.; special cousins: Kay LaFrance Knight, Dr. Ed Carruth, and Lou Becker; special friends: Mary Wallace, Toni Marzell, and Jesse Jackson; also nine grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers were Carey Duke Eskew, Bobby Hatton, Bill Hatton, Mark Richmond, Peyton Smith, and Carey Michael Eskew.
Honorary pallbearer was Hunter Richmond.

Letha Mae Herrington
Funeral services for Letha Mae Herrington, 91, of Winnsboro were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, with Rev. Wayne Smith, Rev. George Bates, and Rev. Jason Herrington officiating.
Burial followed at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Herrington was born Sept. 20, 1918 in Winnsboro, and passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a nurse aide, and a member of Victory Apostolic Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Rawls, mother, Francis (Rollins) Rawls; husband, John Melvin Herrington; son, Lonnie Lovell; daughter, Johnnie Mae (Herrington) Townsend; three brothers: Robert Lee Rials, A.J. Rawls and L.D. Rawls; three sisters: Luease Carroll, Odessa Turner and Mary Rawls.
Survivors include three sons: James Earl Herring of Delhi; Donnie Ray Herrington and friend Alice Nielsen of Delhi; Melvin Daryl Herrington and wife Diane of Winnsboro; daughter, Linda Fay Cowart and husband Arville Franklin "Frank" of Winnsboro; son-in-law, Floyd Townsend Jr., Winnsboro; sister, Carolyn Crum, Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Kay Rawls of Magnolia, Ark.; 12 grandchildren: Dena Nabavi and husband Ali of Atlanta, Ga.; Melanie Peoples and husband Darral of Macy, Ind.; Aaron Cowart and wife Jennifer of Start; Belinda Cowart of Baton Rouge; Lebreska Allen and husband Timothy of Chalmette, La.; Teresa Acreman and husband Jamie of Delhi; Elisha Turner, Winnsboro; Eddie Turner and wife Kiesiah of Epps; Heather Herrington of Winnsboro; Chareale McCarthy and husband John of Baskin; Twyla Herrington of Dania Beach, Fla.; Jason Herrington and wife Melissa of Pineville; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ricky Barton, Byron Burris, Ali Nabavi, Darral Peoples, Jerry Rawls, and Leland Rawls.

Cecil S. Parker
Funeral services for Cecil S. Parker, 66, of Wisner, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, with Rev. Don Blackmon officiating. Burial followed at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Parker was born June 24, 1943 in Wisner, and passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at The Carpenter House Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. She was a resident of Wisner, a homemaker, and a member of the Norris Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nolan Alexander; mother, Leoma (Pippins) Alexander; first husband, David C. Sloan; and grandson, Jordan Ryan Sloan.
Survivors include her husband, R. B. Parker; children: Jeffery Sloan and wife, Adreienne; Deborah Strickland, Timothy Sloan and wife Tracie; Roxanne Sloan, and Clay Sloan; brothers: Danny Alexander, Charlie Alexander, Ben Alexander, and Robert Alexander; sisters: Tressie Ogden, Faye Bradley, Sarah Tomlinson, and Vickie Cader; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; eight step children; 23 step grandchilren and two step great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brandon Hinton Strickland, Jeffery Lynn Sloan Jr., Rusty Bradley, Nolin Bradley, Benji Alexander, and Frank Bradley.
Honorary Pallbearers were James Tomlinson, Mike Tomlinson, and Byron Tomlinson.
