Gators prep for Oak Grove
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Delhi Charter Gators will host the Oak Grove Tigers this Friday night in a very important district 2-1A contest at Gator Stadium.

Delhi Charter is coming off an impressive 45-20 dismantling of district foe Cedar Creek of Ruston in which both Ricci Gray and Randy Julian rushed for two touchdowns and the defense caused havoc for the Cedar Creek offense from start to finish.

Quarterback Gabe Robinson completed 4-of-8 pass attempts for 67 yards and also recorded a rushing touchdown for the Gators who improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in district play.

The win will likely move the Gators up a few spots in the next LHSAA Class 1A playoff power rankings and another district win over Oak Grove would likely put the Gators in the position of hosting a first round game again this year.

Oak Grove will enter the game on a five-game win streak that includes a classic 35-28 win at Ouachita Christian School last Friday night.

Quarterback Jimmy Pepmiller is a three starter and running back Kendrick Jackson has been running over and around all comers this season.

"Those guys are real talented," DCS head coach Bret Raley said. "They do so many things well. On defense, we must tackle better this week."

Tackling and staying in the right position to make plays will be the main concern for the Gator defense this week. Jackson has rushed for over 150 yards six times this season and was good for 159 yards and two touchdowns last week at OCS.

Pepmiller scored a pair of touchdown runs and the always dangerous wide receiver De'La Mayer scored on a third quarter kickoff return of 99 yards to tie the game and put the Tigers in a position for a fourth quarter rally.

OCS recorded 295 yards passing in the game as Oak Grove continues to struggle stopping the pass this season.

Sterlington also had good success throwing the football in a losing effort against Oak Grove earlier in the season.

Kickoff in Delhi is scheduled for 7 p.m.
