Mangham Dragons defeat Sterlington Panthers, 27-21

Mangham High scored three early touchdowns and held off a Sterlington rally as the Dragons defeated the Panthers Friday in Sterlington, with a score of 27-21.

"We found that one of the ways they were lining up allowed us to do what we wanted to do," said Mangham coach Tommy Tharp. "We should have had five early scores, but we missed out on a couple of opportunities. We held them to 130 total yards. We gave them two of their touchdowns. Our defense played great throughout."

Mangham improved to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in District 2-2A.

Montel Hardman, Shaquelle Ausberry and Jonathan Harris scored for the Dragons before Sterlington rallied wth a touchdown pass from Logan Dopson to Clint Branton and two touchdown runs by d'Mardrei Richardson.

Mangham's third TD came on a double reverse pass from Richard Haynes to Harris.
"That's something we tried earlier in the year that worked for us so we came back with it," Tharp said.

Mangham hosts Jonesboro-Hodge Friday.

"This is a big game for both teams," Tharp said. "We can assure ourselves of a playoff spot with a win. Jonesboro-Hodge is a different type of animal. They have a lot more athletes than most of the teams we've played."
