Cougars best Eagles, 28-6

After giving up 68 points to Mt. Salus last month in a 26-point loss, Franklin Academy shut down the Eagles in a 28-6 win Friday in Winnsboro.

Franklin, 4-4, ends its season at Tensas Friday with still a chance to make the playoffs.

"The boys came to play," said Franklin head coach Doyle Hassell. "That was our most complete game of the year. We were a little more prepared and the team played hard.

Franklin had 412 yards rushing and held Mt. Salus' 300-plus pound fullback in check all night.

"Our front three of Ethan Vick, Walker Magee and Kalin Howington stuffed the run and did a great job," Hassell said.

Franklin's defense has give up only three touchdown in the past three weeks.
Chris Hassell had an interception for the second straight week for the Cougars.

Rilyn Taylor scored on runs of 13 and 37 yards. Colton Monnin scored on an 8-yard run and had a 2-point conversion.

Nate Blackwell scored on a 3-yard run.

"Our offensive line of Ethan Vick, Walker Magee, Tyler Ezell, Kade Armstrong and Josh Thigpen did a super job of blocking," Hassell said.

Tensas beat Franklin 40-0 in their first meeting. Tensas had an open date Friday.

"They are the class of 8-man football as far as I am concerned," Hassell said.
