Posted 10/21/09 M.J. 'Son' Batey Funeral services for M.J. "Son" Batey, 76, of Wisner will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today) at First Baptist Church Wisner. Burial will follow at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Wisner. Mr. Batey died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at his residence. He was retired with the Franklin Parish School Board as a principal and was a member of First Baptist Church Wisner.
Carrie E. Bryant Funeral services for Carrie E. Bryant, 90, of Winnsboro, formerly of Ridgecrest, were held at Young's Funeral Home, Ferriday on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, with Rev. Ed Jelks officiating. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Bryant was born June 15, 1919 in Wisner, and passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at her residence in Winnsboro. She was a retired school cafeteria worker, and a member of the Temple Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband: L. E. Bryant; father, A. D. Roberts; mother, Jeredeen (Risher) Roberts; daughter, Kaye Bryant; eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Clark and husband Bill of Winnsboro; son, Sammy Bryant and wife Judy of Churchill, Miss.; grandchildren: Ben and Tim Clark of Monroe; Aaron Bryant of Natchez, Miss.; Brandon Bryant and wife Tanya of Charleston, SC; sister, Edna Floyd of Jakin, Ga. Pallbearers were Ben Clark, Tim Clark, Aaron Bryant, Doug Emfinger, Blair Armstrong, and Paul Harris. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Care Resources and sitters Lora Jones and Glenda McCartney. Lula Mae King Mrs. Lula Mae King, 82, of Wisner, a retired emergency technician and OB nurse, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at Plantation Oaks Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at Clayton Pentecostal Church. Burial followed at South Central Cemetery, Wisner, under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Otis Mack Hill Jr. Funeral service for Otis Mack Hill Jr., 56, of Winnsboro were held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 in Gill First National Funeral Chapel in Winnsboro. Burial followed in Chase Cemetery with Elder Ernest Clawson and Don Robertson officiating. Mr. Hill was born to Otis Mack and Fannie Marie Wallace on Oct. 9, 1953 in Winnsboro and passed from this life Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 in Newellton. He was preceded in death by his father; brother Stevon Hill, paternal grandparents Vernon and Sennie Hill; and maternal grandparents Gardner and Minnie Wallace. He is survived by his mother, Fannie Marie Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law: Skipper and Christy Hill of Winnsboro, and Lucas and Julie Hill of Sulpher Springs, Texas; three step-children: David McKinney, Lisa Martin and Jennifer Winstead; six grandsons: Coby, Caleb, Cooper, Luke, Ethan and Sean Hill; and one granddaughter Kylie Hill. He is also survived by three sisters: Jocelyn Thevenot and husband Bobby, Gloria Harper and Anna Marie Hill; brother Tim Hill and wife Joyce; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles cousins and friends. Pallbearers were Bo Curington, Dewey Donnell, Ricky Donnell, Greg Hill, Ken Hill, Ken Malone, Richard Perot, and Steve Perot. Honorary pallbearer was Joe Doughty. Bobby Joe Everett Bobby Joe Everett passed away Oct. 13, 2009, due to complications of a stroke he suffered in February. He was born Nov. 16, 1939. He grew up in Winnsboro and still had many friends here. His fondest memories were of his Babe Ruth baseball team and teammates. Mr. Everett lost his first wife Betty after many years of marriage which resulted in two sons. He also had a stepson. He was married to the former Judy Waller for a year whom he still loved very much. He was also a veteran of the US Navy, which he was very proud of. Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his father, Luther Lee, and mother Jessie Wilma; his older brother, Luther Lee Jr. He is survived by his sons, Lance, Mark and stepson Randy; sisters: Murlee Wilbanks, Monroe; Billie Thrower, Long Beach, Calif.; Betty Smith, Jonesville; Shirley Gates, Bremerton, Wash.; Linda Lewis, Johnson Valley, Calif.; Janice Booth and Beverly Carrick, both of Canby, Oregon; brothers-in-law: Alfred Gates, Dennis Lewis, and Bob Booth, three grandchildren and one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at a later date.
Thelma G. Sanders Funeral services for Thelma G. Sanders, 84, were held Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Rockett Funeral Home Chapel in Ringgold, La., with Bro. Joey Anderson and Bro. Paul Ford officiating. Burial followed at Andrews Chapel in Heflin, La. Mrs. Sanders was born Sept. 23, 1925 in Red River Parish and passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009. She was a life-long healthcare employee who worked as a LPN in nursing home administration. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Nita Griffith. Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, William Edward Sanders, Ringgold; son, Curtis E. Sanders and wife Diwana of Wisner, and their two daughters; her three daughters: daughters: Betty Sanders of Ringgold and her two sons; Peggy Juneau and her husband Johnny Ray of Winnsboro, and their three sons and daughter; Nita Ford and her husband, Paul of Monroe and their son and daughter; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Vance Griffith and his wife Betty of Ringgold, Lamar Griffith of Abbeville; a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Randy Anderson, Jackie Anderson, Malcolm Griffith, Brandon Ray, Lane Davis, and Eddie Young. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Carlos Irizarry, Scotty Woodard and Harry Davis. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Carlos Irizarry, the staff at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro, and the staff at Ringgold Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. |
