Semi-pro team to hold try-outs here Saturday

A semi-pro football team will host try-outs in Winnsboro on Saturday, Oct. 17.

LaJerrick Taylor, a 2005 graduate of Franklin Parish High School, said try-outs for the Cenla Twin City Patriots would be held at the Westside Park in Winnsboro, beginning at 8 a.m.

"We're looking for football players who want to play for a championship team," Taylor said.
League play for the Patriots, who are based in Pineville/Alexandria, will begin in February, 2010.

A star football player and track athlete for Winnsboro High School and Franklin Parish High School, Taylor played college football for McPherson College in Kansas before completing his collegiate career as a running back for the Wildcats of Louisiana College.
He will graduate from Louisiana College with a degree in business and marketing management next spring.

"I may be through playing college football, but I'm not through playing football," said Taylor, who will play tailback for the Patriots. "This is a good brand of football, and we're looking for some of those guys who fell through the cracks. We're looking for some of those 'second chance' guys who still want to play."

Interested players should report to the park with shorts, white or gray t-shirt, and cleats.
A fee of $50 must be paid at the time of registration.

"I always said that if I ever made it somewhere, I would bring it back home," Taylor said.
"This is a good football league and a good opportunity for those people who want to play football and win a championship while playing for a good organization."

The Patriots won the league championship last year with a record of 11-3.
