FA Cougars fall to Rebul

The short-handed Franklin Academy Cougars fell to Rebul 32-16 at Rebul Friday.

Already down to five varsity players, Franklin lost junior Rilyn Taylor, who dislocated his shoulder early in the game.

"We're just trying to survive right now," said Franklin coach Doyle Hassell. "We've lost six out of the 15 we started out with to injuries."

Franklin led Rebul 16-14 at halftime as Colton Monnin scored on a 30-ayrd run and Lathan Taylor scored on a 35-yard run.

Monnin passed to Ryan Sullivan for one conversion, while Nate Blackwell scored the other conversion.

But Rebul outscored the Cougars 18-0 in the second half.

"We just couldn't answer their scores," Hassell said. "They scored on a 75-yard interception return and a faked field goal. They also bobbled a punt, but picked it up and returned it inside our 10-yard line."

Franklin goes to Gulfport Friday to face Christian Collegiate, a team it beat 30-24 in Winnsboro in August.

"We just have to go down there, bow our necks and play football," Hassell said. "We have to eliminate our mistakes."
