Franklin Parish High School receives HIGHTech grant Twenty-four districts across the state submitted competitive proposals for the HIGHTech EETT ARRA Stimulus Competitive Grant. Only 13 of the projects were funded, with an award of $367,000 going to Franklin Parish High School.
The project focuses on science and social studies, with each science and social studies teacher receiving 21 tablet computers (one teacher computer and 20 student computers), including DyKnow software which will provide a highly interactive classroom environment to actively engage students in the learning process.
All teachers at FPHS will receive training in developing teacher web pages for better communication with parents and the community. Teachers will also receive training to use Moodle, an online classroom environment, to provide students with 24/7 access to classroom resources and activities.
As a part of the competitive process, Pat Sartin, principal of FPHS, Debbie Lyles, teacher, curriculum coordinator Dr. Ruth Bonner-Thompson, Thoy Leonard, district technology coordinator and Wiley McClary, assistant superintendent, traveled to Baton Rouge to participate in a review process with interviewers from California, Iowa and Mississippi.
The grant will be implemented during the 2009-2010 school year in an effort to better serve students by preparing them for high-stakes testing and the Twenty-first century workplace. |
