Two die in crash
Two men died Thursday night in a single-vehicle accident on LA-572.
The driver James Stokes, 38, of Winnsboro and passenger Jeffrey Peck, 36, of Slidell died when their 1999 Chrysler Concord left the roadway and flipped over several times.
According to law enforcement officials, driver impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology tests are pending.
"The car ran off the left side of the road and rolled over several times," said state police spokesman Mark Dennis. "The driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner's Office."
Investigators also believe the car was driving on a blown tire for as much as five miles before the crash.
"It appears that the front left tire was gone and the car was being operated at a high rate of speed on the rim, prior to the crash," Dennis said.
Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.
The Thursday night accident is the 33rd fatal crash state police Troop F have investigated in 2009.
To date, 37 people have died in Troop F traffic accidents. |
