A national farm and ranch store is coming to Franklin Parish, according to Winnsboro Mayor Jack Hammons.

Hammons said Tractor Supply Co. will open the doors of a new store Nov. 1 and could employ as many as 30 people.

Renovations are currently underway in the old Brookshire's grocery store on Hwy. 15 in Winnsboro.

Hammons said the store will benefit from several federal tax benefits.

"They are entitled to the renewal amenity tax incetives," Hammons said. "Any employee they hire in Franklin Parish will mean a $1,500 per employee tax credit."

Also, Hammons said the company is eligible for a number of other federal and state workforce development programs, including training.
Tractor Supply Co. is one of the largest operators of retail farm and ranch stores in the country.

The company has 895 stores in 44 states that supply the needs of rural communities, as well as tradesmen and small businesses.

The Winnsboro location will be the 14th store opened by the company in Louisiana.

The company is based out of Minot, North Dakota, where it opened its first store in 1938.

According to the company's web site, Tractor Supply Co. is focused on "supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers."

The stores provide a range of items to farmers, and ranchers, as well as equine and pet supplies.

Also, Tractor Supply Co. carries a wide range of tractor and trailer parts and accessories, lawn and garden supplies, power tools, fencing and clothing lines.

It will compete directly with next door neighbor, Sullivan's Feed and Seed.

Representatives of Tractor Supply Co. could not be reached for comment.
