Gators set to travel to Tensas The Delhi Charter Gators (1-3) will be hitting the road this Friday as they travel to take on Tensas Parish High School in a 7 p.m. contest.
The Gators could not find enough offensive firepower during a 48-24 loss to the Caldwell Spartans.
With Randy Julian missing his second straight game with a knee injury, Ricci Gray again pulled double duty as the starting running back and corner back for the Gators.
DCS has yet to find anyone on the bench to match the speed and tackling ability of Gray and so he is to play on both offense and defense until Julian is able to play running back again.
The team is still listing Julian as questionable and will most likely let his legs rest until district play begins next week.
Centarius Donald made the Gators pay for their lack of defensive depth in the second half as he wore them down with 186 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries for the Spartans. "With Randy (Julian) out it limited us defensivley," DCS head coach Bret Raley said.
"Centarius Donald made us pay. He is so big strong and quick, a great combination." Delhi Charter quarterback Gabe Robinson completed 10-of-16 pass attempts for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Gray finished the game with 110 yards rushing for the Gators.
"We did not do a good job of assignment football," Raley said . "We were just out of position so many times after watching the film. I felt we had a real good week of practice. I thought last Wednesday was one of the best days of practice we had all year."
Now the Gators take their show on the road to Tensas (1-2). Tensas is coming off a 36-8 loss to the Delhi Bears after the Bears lead just 14-8 at halftime, but dominated Tensas in the second half.
"Tensas is real athletic," Raley said. We have to prepare for teams better by getting some more depth on our scout teams maybe. We might have to let our starting running backs run against our starting defense to get them better prepared for what they will see each Friday night."
Tensas has losses to Delhi and Serepta while beating Ringgold. The win for Serepta was the only one so far this season.
Delhi Charter also continues to look to find the right chemistry on defense as well as depth on that side of the football.
Julian being on the sideline has given the offense a new confidence in certain areas of their game this season.
"It has given us a different outlook," Raley said. "It gave us an opportunity to prove we can throw the ball. We have not played a complete game of football yet." |
