The Lady Cougar softball team began the week by defeating Union Christian Academy of Farmerville by a score of 15 to 6 to capture the 7-A District Championship.

Franklin Academy finished their district schedule with a 6-2 record.

The Cougar attack was led by Ariel Gill, Autumn Acree and Mary Grace Haring, who each had three hits and combined for seven RBI's. Sarah Haring picked up the win, allowing only 5 hits in 6 innings.

The title marks the forth consecutive district championship for the Lady Cougars.

Also, the Lady Cougars competed last Saturday in the Mississippi Association of Private Schools South State Championship at Davis Park.

The tournament qualifiers consisted of the top two finishers in each of the four Class-A districts. Franklin Academy advanced to the tournament finals with a 6-2 win over Russell Christian Academy of Meridian, MS.

Autumn Acree earned the win, allowing only two runs on two hits while striking out seven. The Lady Cougars pounded out 10 hits in scoring 6 runs. Acree also had two hits. Paired with Savannah Shipman's two hits, the two set the pace for the offense.

The Lady Cougars fell in a tough, 5-4 final loss to Wayne Academy. Wayne pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the last inning.

Acree and Shipman again carried the hot bats for the Lady Cougars, with two hits each.

Franklin Academy started the day with two convincing wins. In the first game, the home team combined good pitching and timely hitting to defeat Hiedelberg Academy, 7-1. In that game, 6 Lady Cougars had hits, with Savanna Shipman leading the way with 3. Sara Haring pitched a complete game, allowing only 5 hits and 1 run to earn the win.

In the second game, the Franklin Academy bats caught fire, knocking out eleven hits on the way to a 14-3 win over Veritas School of Jackson, MS.

Lindy Carrol, Ariel Gill and Mary Grace Haring had two hits each to lead the way. Sarah Haring garnered her second win of the day, holding Veritas to 2 runs on 4 hits.

Franklin Academy will play in the Class A State Tournament this Saturday in Flowood, MS. The tournament consists of the final four class A teams and will decide the Class A state championship in girls' fast pitch softball.
