Tripped by Dragons, Gators face Jonesboro-Hodge Friday

The Mangham Dragons (1-1) overcame a halftime deficit against the Delhi Charter School Gators (1-1) and went on to a 29-16 victory on Friday night at Dragons Stadium.

"Defensivley we played well all night long," Delhi Charter head coach Brett Raley said.
"Our defense would hold them then they would spring a long touchdown pass and and run."

On offense the Gators could rarely get any form of rhythm going because of a slew of turnovers that at one point killed three consecutive drives in the second half for Delhi Charter.

Senior running back Randy Julian continued to dominate the competition as he ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries as the lone rusher over 100 yards for the Gators.

Leading 16-8 at halftime because of large chunks of yards gained on the ground by Julian, the Gators seemed on their way to another win over a local rival.

In the second half, however, Mangham moved Montrell Hardman from wide receiver to quarterback and it made all the difference for the Dragons.

Hardman ran for 69 yards on 12 carries and a key touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Hardman was contained for most of the game by the stiff Gator defensive unit, but was able to break a huge 57-yard romp to the end zone to swing the momentum over to the Dragons.

This Friday night, the Gators step up in class to take on the Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers (1-1) of Class 2A.

The DCS coaches will be working hard to correct ball security issues from the Mangham contest where numerous fumbles caused major problems for the Gator offense.

"Against Jonesboro-Hodge, we have to contain their speed," Raley said. "We need to contain their athletes and take much better care of the football on offense."

Kickoff at Gator Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
