Mangham gets revenge, routs Delhi Charter

Mangham High got a bit of revenge Friday night as the Dragons defeated Delhi Charter 29-16 to give Tommy Tharp his first win as a Dragon head coach.

"Any win is a good win," Tharp said. "We just need to build on this and get ready for the next week."

Delhi Charter blanked Mangham, 28-0 in the Class 1A quarterfinals last year.

Mangham moved up to Class 2A this season.

Mangham, which was trailing 16-14 at halftime, used the big play to defeat the Gators.

"We did a much better job in the second half, picking up blitzes and making a few changes," Tharp said.

Montrel Hardeman scored on a 7-yard pass from Seth Parker, a 52-yard run and a 65-yard punt return.

The Dragons used a 71-yard scoring pass from Parker to Richard Haynes.

"We're a big play team," Tharp said. "We have to rely on that because of how small our offensive line is."

Mangham visits Caldwell in Columbia Friday.

"They will be one of the biggest teams we play and have one of the best running backs in the state (Centarius Donald)," Tharp said. "We played them in the spring and couldn't stop him then. We have to try and figure out a way to slow him down. We expect another competitive game that could go down to the wire."
