Cougars take district win against Rebul, 34-14 Franklin Academy claimed another victory at home against Rebul Friday night.
The 36- 14 victory was the Cougars second district win.
When asked about the win Coach Hassell said " Our kids keep getting better every week!" The first scoring drive ended with a 5 yard touchdown run by Nate Blackwell with seven minutes and ten seconds left in the first quarter.
That would be the only score in the first quarter and defense would prevail until the Cougars punched in a two yard touchdown run by Rilyn Taylor at 7:27 in the second quarter.
Colton Monnin would convert the two point conversion.
Franklin Academy would take a 14 - 0 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half it would be Rilyn Taylor again who would electrify the crowd with a huge 60 yard touchdown run.
Lathan Taylor would bring in the two point conversion. On the ensuing play, Ryan Sullivan would recover his own onside kick and set up another drive for the cougars.
Fifty-one seconds later, Rilyn Taylor would score another touchdown from the thirteen yard line. Taylor would end the night with 131 yards and 3 touchdowns. Another score would be tacked on at 7:58 in the fourth quarter by 8th grader Taylor Gilley who outran the defense from the 14 yard line.
All the scoring drives would consist of steady doses of Nate Blackwell runs and Colton Monnin passes.
Blackwell would gain 53 yards on 11 carries and 1 touchdown.
Monnin would rush for 79 yards on 11 carries and connect 8 of 13 passes for 128 yards . Rebul wouldn't go quietly and scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter when Logan Smith and Cody Atkins both scored from the 13 yard line with 5:25 and 1:39 left in the game. The Cougars were able to run the clock out and maintain a unblemished district record.
The Cougars will face another district rival when they host Mount Salus on September 11th.
The Eagles hail from Clinton Mississippi and have a high octane offense. They will line up two receivers that are 6'7" and 6'4" in height. |
