Story Archives: Rebuilding year for Mangham open Friday

Rebuilding year for Mangham open Friday

Mangham High opens its season at home against Ouachita Christian.

"They lost a lot of seniors, but I don't think there is such a thing as rebuilding at Ouachita Christian," said first-year Mangham coach Tommy Tharp. "They give you so many different looks and formations. I would be feeling real good about it if we were in a track meet, but this is a football game. We have to block and tackle and not turn the ball over."

Mangham competed against Franklin Parish in a jamboree in Winnsboro Friday.

"At times we looked good and at times we looked bad," Tharp said. "Montel Hardeman had a good game and we have to find a way to get him the football. Shaquille Ausberry did a good job running the ball. What I liked is that when I thought we got tired, the guys found their second wind and took control of the ball game. That goes back to the tradition and expectations at Mangham."

Tharp said his defense needs to stop the big play Ouachita Christian is always capable of making.

"They aren't going to grind it out against you," he said.

The contest is the first for Mangham in Class 2A as the Dragons are competing in District 2-2A this season.
