Story Archives: Proposal would redirect revenue

Proposal would redirect revenue

The Franklin Parish Police Jury will ask voters for permission to use a small part of funds set aside to cover garbage collection to cover administrative costs.

In a special meeting August 19, the jury approved a finance committee proposal to redirect four percent of total amount generated by the one-half cent sales tax used for the pickup and disposal of refuse. The proposal must be approved by parish voters in the Nov. 14 general election.

The sales tax, dedicated to purpose of garbage control, will come up for renewal in 2013 but jurors can not use the money for any other purposes without voter approval.

Currently, the administrative costs for garbage are taken from the Police Jury general fund.
