Peggy Marie Traylor
Funeral services for Peggy Marie Traylor were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro with Dr. John Traylor, Dr. Allen Miller and Rev. Johnny Hankins officiating. Burial followed in Columbia Hills Cemetery in Columbia, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mrs. Traylor was born in Monroe, La. and spent most of her life in Winnsboro. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro.
She is survived by her husband, Justice Chet D. Traylor; sons and daughters-in-law, Noble and Susan Ellington, and Ryan and Denise Ellington, all of Winnsboro; step children, Therese and Sammy Nagem of Baton Rouge, Leigh and Bart Liles of Shreveport, and Anna and Kyle Holloway of Crowville; grandchildren include Michael Ryan Ellington of Baton Rouge, John Tyler Ellington, Elizabeth Ellington, Tucker Ellington, and Blake Ellington, all of Winnsboro, Ellie and Traylor Nagem of Baton Rouge, and Mary Blake Liles of Shreveport; her siblings include Fred and Helen McDowell of Longview, Texas, Nancy and Dr. John Bush, Ramona Welch, Merry Bayles, all of Monroe.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Michael Ryan Ellington, Tyler Ellington, Tucker Ellington, Sammy Nagem, Bart Liles, Kyle Holloway, and Blake Ellington.
Memorials may be made to Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home or the Cancer Society.

Laverne Marie Johnston Beatty
Laverne Marie Johnston Beatty, 82, of Winnsboro, Louisiana met her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Regency Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 27, starting at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Bro. Cory Bruce and Bro. Keith Harvison will officiate.
Laverne Beatty was a Valedictorian graduate from Ogden High School in 1943. She was a very loving and dedicated wife and mother of two children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was the founder and co-owner of The Furniture Center with her husband, a Good Samaritan Volunteer, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Winnsboro, where she also served as the Ladies Sunday School Class teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordy Hines Johnston and Gladys Rachel Valentine Johnston, one sister, Gloria Joy Johnston Tarver, and one grandson James Allen Williams.
She is survived by her husband, James Timothy Beatty; her son, Paul Timothy Beatty and his wife Jeannine; her daughter, Linda Carol Beatty Williams and her husband Bryant; grandchildren: John Williams and his wife Stacey; Amy Williams Backstrom and her husband Jeremy; Alisha Beatty Verzwyvelt and her husband, Nick; and Michelle Beatty Bourne and her husband Jerry; great-grandchildren: Kaylee Williams, Kaleb Williams, Rachel Backstrom, Benjamin Backstrom, Rebekah Backstrom, Ayla Verzwyvelt, and Noah Williams. She is also survived by her brother G.W. Johnston and his wife Eleanor, her sisters, Byrdie Mae Jennings and her husband Charlie Ray Jennings, and Virginia Collins and her husband Bobby.
Visitation will be held at Young's Community Memorial in Winnsboro on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 6-9 p.m.

Dovie Elaine Eldridge
Funeral services for Dovie Elaine Eldridge, 77, of Winnsboro were held Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at the Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro, with the Dr. Alan Miller and Rev. Jason Foster officiating. Burial followed in the Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mrs. Eldridge was a faithful Christian and member of Temple Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for many years, worked for Temple Baptist Early Education Program, and custodian of Temple Baptist Church. She was born Sept. 19, 1932 in Winnsboro, where she resided. She passed from this life at the Franklin Medical Center on August 22, 2009. She is preceded in by husband, John Elton Eldridge.
She is survived by her children: Dianne Sampley and husband Stephen, Shelia Lofton and husband Paul, Gary Eldridge and wife Krista, Susan Eldridge, and Lisa Bass and husband Matthew; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Matthew Sampley, Dow Eldridge, Jeremy Temple, Lee Martin, Jimmy Smith, and Mark Spence.
Honorary pallbearers were Eli Eaks, Brandon Martin, and Aaron Moore.

Bessie Ward Gallman
Funeral services for Bessie Ward Gallman, 90, of Winnsboro, were held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Gill Chapel with Rev. William Busby and Rev. Eddie Skinner officiating. Burial followed in Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Gallman was born to the union of her parents Isaac and Bertha Ezell Ward on July 18, 1919 in Meadville, Miss. and passed from this life on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro. Mrs. Gallman is preceded in death by her parents: her husband C. W. Gallman; step daughter, Joy Durham; one brother: Truly Ward and sister-in-law: Hazel Ward.
Mrs. Gallman is survived by two children: Ward Miller of Winnsboro; and Ann Roberts of Plant City, Fla.; step daughter, Tammy Dyer and husband Stewart of Rayville; one brother: Harold Ward and wife Hazel of Crowville; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Lance Roberts, Ryan Skinner, Chris Ward, Eddie Ward, Gary Ward, and Josh Ward.
Honorary Pallbearers were Ryan Spinks, Miller Watson, Kevin Ward and Charles Edward Ward.

Carolyn Sue Black Hawthorne
Funeral services for Sue Hawthorne, 74, were held Aug. 14, 2009 in Ardmore, OK, with interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. She passed away on August 10, 2009, in Springdale, Ark.
She married Jessie Allison "Pete" Hawthorne and was the organist of the United Pentecostal Church until 1981.
She is survived by two sons: Gregory Kent Hawthorne of Lowell, Ark. and Philip K. Hawthorne and wife Keri of Goshen, Ark.

Modelle Wollerson Braswell
Funeral services for Modelle Wollerson Braswell, 83, of Winnsboro, were held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Gill Chapel with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Braswell was born to the union of her parents Henry and Lilia Harrold Wollerson on July 15, 1926 in Winnsboro, and passed from this life August 12, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Purvis Braswell; three brothers: Manuel, Tilman, and Jake Wollerson; two sisters: Ella Mae Brownell and Eva Dale Roberts.
She is survived by three daughters: Susan B. Shurden and husband Michael of Greenwood, SC; Sandra B. Jackson and husband Sherman of Baskin, and Marla McKenzie and husband Rusty of Winnsboro; two step-daughters: Charlotte Wallace and husband Bob of Lexington, Miss. and Martha Milliet and husband Robert of Florence, Miss.; one sister: Etta Cupples of Shreveport; and host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Bentley Eaton, Bobby Eaton, Dane Eaton, Jon Braswell, Barkley Braswell and Bodie Jackson.

Loyal F. Parrott Jr.
Memorial services for Loyal F. Parrott Jr., age 85, of Fort Necessity were held Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009 at Fort Necessity Baptist Church in Fort Necessity, with Rev. Hershel Clanton, Bro. Virgil Harris, Rev. Benton Moore and Rev. Don Blackmon officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Parrott was a retired millwright and farmer. He passed away on August 14, 2009.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Faye Parrott; three daughters: Judy McKee and husband, Wayne of Start; Marilyn Wilson and husband Gene of Chase; Debbie Christian and husband James of Bernice; brother: Richmond Parrott and wife Leah of Yerington, Nev.; seven grandchildren: Michael, Misty, and Cody Wilson; Chad and Chuck McKee; Emily Stansbury, and Julie Christian; nine great-grandchildren.

Robert 'Robby' Houston Smith
Funeral services for Robert "Robby" Houston Smith, 39, of Liddieville were held at South Central Baptist Church on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, with Rev. Curtis Harris officiating. Burial followed at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Smith was born May 25, 1970 in Delhi, and passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at his work near Mansfield, LA. He was a resident of Liddieville, a derrick hand in the oil field, and a member of the baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Rod" Edward Smith; maternal grandmother, Vera Arender; paternal grandmother, Ruby Bass Smith; Georgia Taylor Gould, Alta Taylor Arender Brown, Allen A. "Poe" Brown, Henry H. Arender, Houston C. Arender.
Survivors include his mother, Jewel Arender; wife, Angela (Turnage) Smith of Liddieville; two sons: Jared Houston Smith and Jordan Hunter Smith, both of Liddieville; sister, April Smith Winborne and husband Terry of Gilbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Pallbearers were Walter Smith, Kenneth Wilson, Greg Wilson, John Graham, Quinn Turnage, and Wade Parker.
Honorary pallbearers were Pat Jackson, Ronnie Fussell, Terry Winborne, Luther Boy Smith and the Rig M 20 Crew.

Mattie Pauline Temple
Funeral services for Mattie Pauline Temple, 76, of Winnsboro, were held at Bayou Macon Baptist Church on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, with Rev. Jerry Goodman and Rev. Ron Ferrington officiating. Interment followed at Harris Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Temple was born Feb. 9, 1933 in Wisner, and passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She was a loving wife, mother, memaw, and aunt. She was a member of the Bayou Macon Baptist Church and had a special love for her church family. She truly loved all people that she came in contact with and most recently the Family Life Home Health workers who she particularly loved.
Mrs. Temple is survived by Troy Temple, her husband of 59 years; her daughter Shirley Guyton and husband David; two granddaughters, Angela Whitman and husband Cliff, and Crystal Guyton; one great granddaughter, Cidney Whitman; a special adopted daughter, Dytsie Rushing; and a special nephew, Tommy Rushing; two very loving sisters, Lula Belle Reeves and Dot Ulmer; numerous wonderful and special nieces and nephews; a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law; and a special friend, Loe Guimbellot and wife Susie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Rushing; mother, Essie (Thornhill) Rushing; brother, John Rushing.
Pallbearers were Rocky Williams, Buddy Jennings, Glendale Temple, Danny Ralph Temple, Nolan Temple, and Joshua Dunn.

James V. 'Jelly' Williams
Funeral services for James V. "Jelly" Williams, 85, of Winnsboro, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, August 24, 2009, with Rev. John Albright and Rev. John Williams officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Williams was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Liddieville, and passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro.
"Jelly" was a loving husband and father. He loved his God and country very much. He had a sense of humor and always had witty sayings that his wife called "Jellyisms." He was a 32nd degree Mason, a VFW member, American Legion member and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He served in WWII and was in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. In his later years he liked to tell funny accounts of his WWII experiences. He worked in the oil and drilling business starting as a "water boy" and rose to the position of superintendent over several rigs that worked for major oil companies. He also had a work ethic taught to him as a boy that helped him succeed in his endeavors that he pursued. His work took him to several states including Miss., Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, planting flowers, most anything that was outside work. He was a simple man with a love of things of nature.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Williams; mother, Katie Melissa (Mason) Williams; two brothers: Steve Williams and Ray Williams; three sisters: Louise Colbert, Hazel Hollister, and Annie Bell Williamson.
Survivors include his wife, Grace (Foster) Williams of Winnsboro; son, Vernon Williams Jr. and wife Sheryl of Dallas, Texas; brother, John Williams Jr. and wife Gwen of Winnsboro; sister, Helen Robinson of Winnsboro; and numerous nieces, nephew, family, and friends
Pallbearers were Russell Colbert, Don Cummings, Marcus Williams, Doyle Williamson, Johnny Williams, and Steve Williams Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Elders of First Presbyterian Church.

Jorge Zaldivar
Funeral services for Jorge Zaldivar were held Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Minden, with Father Rothel Price officiating.
Graveside service was held at Wiggers Family Cemetery in Fort Necessity, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Minden.
Mr. Zaldivar was born June 1, 1937 in Santiago, Chile and entered into rest Aug. 21, 2009 in Minden.
His beloved wife Maria Pia Zaldivar, father Jorge Solo de Zaldivar Prado, infant sister Constanza, and brother Andres preceded him in death.
He is survived by his mother, Luz Letelier de Solo de Zaldivar of Santiago, Chile; sons: Jorge Antonio Zaldivar and wife Lori Ann of Minden; Andres Zaldivar and wife Carrie Ann of Dubberly; daughter: Maria Pia Cooper and husband Michael of Marietta, Ga.; Maria Luisa (Mary) Avery and husband Danny Kay of Minden; and Alejandra Wiggers and husband Rusty of Fort Necessity; sisters: Talo Solo de Zaldivar Cerda, Talena Solo de Zaldivar Sanchez, Ana Marie Solo de Zaldivar; brothers: Antonio Solo de Zaldivar and Joaquin Solo de Zaldivar; grandchildren: Nicholas Cody Avery and fiancé Britany Pullman, Spencer Heard, Christopher Michael Cooper, Alexander Cristian Avery, Taylor Ann Zaldivar, Russ Bonner Wiggers, Zachary Tyler Zaldivar, Colby Phillip Zaldivar, Jorge Evan Wiggers, and Jorge Connar Zaldivar.
Jorge Zaldivar....If Webster's Dictionary had a definition for Jorge Zaldivar, words like strength, enthusiasm, gentleman, intelligence, determination, love, zest, conviction, compassion, friend, father and Tata would be found.
Jorge Zaldivar lived to love and loved to live! He fought for what he believed and believed with conviction.
A man's man, gentleman, father, husband, Tata (grandpa), and friend.
