Parish schools open next week

Less than 10 week days remain before students attending Franklin Parish public schools return to class on Monday, Aug. 24. Teachers will return in about a week, Aug. 20.

Renovations at several parish schools are ongoing, with Baskin and Crowville schools nearing completion.

Reconstruction to the fire-damaged buildings at Horace G. White Learning Center is pending asbestos removal from the site. Students at HGW will report to class in the gymnasium on the school campus.

The new technology wing is complete at Franklin Parish High School. Through a cooperative endeavor with the local police jury, the road around the stadium is scheduled to be repaved in the near future.

School officials are asking anyone with unwanted school uniforms to drop them off at the school board office on Loop Road. For more information call Jimmy Henderson at 435-9046.

Franklin Academy has scheduled Wednesday Aug. 19, for the first half-day of classes for students. Students will attend class until 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday. Teachers will begin on Monday Aug. 17 and Tuesday Aug. 18, to prepare for the new school year.

Franklin Academy, now in its 40th year, will hold its first home football game on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. There will be a back-to-school dance to follow the game.

Junior varsity and varsity football and girls softball games have been scheduled for the upcoming year. Schedules are available at the school.

Classes at Family Community Christian School are scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 24 for students. Teachers will return to the classroom on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

A new wing with six new classrooms will be available for students attending FCCS. An all-purpose building has also been added to the school campus for various activities.

'Prayer Walks' have been scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m. on each school campus

All interested persons are invited to be a part of this year's prayer walk. Participants will walk the halls, playground, cafeteria, offices and classrooms to pray for the students, teachers, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, janitors, secretaries, aides, principals and anyone connected with school activities.

The schools will be opened and closed by school personnel.
