Jewel Dean Bamburg Jewel Dean Shores Bamburg, 61, a retired beautician of Newellton, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center. Funeral services were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2009 with Rev. John Holdiness officiating. Interment followed at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton. She is survived by a son, Calvin Lee Bamburg Jr.; a daughter, Sharon Bamburg; one brother and two sisters; special lifelong friend, Dot Sibley.
Richard Eugene 'Papa' Chambers Graveside services for Richard Eugene "Papa" Chambers, age 80, of West Monroe, were held Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Wisner, with Rev. John Dallalio officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Chambers was retired United States Army veteran. He passed away at his residence on July 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant twin boys. Daniel Smith Daniel Smith, 33, died Friday, July 17, 2009 from injuries as a result of a motorcycle - vehicle accident. Daniel was born August 5, 1975 to Rodger and Rita (Long) Smith, in Monroe, and raised in Winsboro, Franklin Parish. Mr. Smith joined the United States Air Force on October 15, 1993 and served at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD, Misawa Air Force Base in Japan and at Canon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM. He was discharged in 2005. He married Jennifer Erz, June 3, 1996 in Rapid City. Mr. Smith lived life to the fullest and did everything he set his mind to. He loved hunting, fishing and working with his hands. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Smith, Rapid City, son, Kain Smith, parents, Roger and Rita Smith, Gilbert; and parents-in-law, Dennis and Margaret Erz, Rapid City. Funeral services for he and Hunter will be held 10:00 am, (today) Wednesday, July 22 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Fr. Dan Juelfs officiating. He and his son will be interred together in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. There will be a motorcycle escort from the church to Black Hills National Cemetery following services as a show for motorcycle awareness. Hunter Smith Hunter Smith, 8, Rapid City, South Dakota died at Rapid City Regional Hospital, July 18, 2009, from injuries suffered as a result of a motorcycle - vehicle accident which occurred on Friday, July 17, 2009. Hunter was born Sept. 7, 2000 to Daniel and Jennifer (Erz) Smith, in Misawa, Japan. Hunter was active in Harney Little League and received his Orange Belt in Tae Kwon Do from the United Chung Do Kwan Association in November of 2008. He attended Wilson Elementary School in Rapid City. Hunter was an organ donor, his mother choosing to help others out of this tragedy. Vera Franklin Funeral services for Vera Franklin, 76, of Foules were held July 3, 2009 at Zion Baptist Church with Rev. T.A. Baker Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery, under the direction of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home. Mrs. Franklin died Monday, June 6, 2009 in Ferriday. She is survived by one daughter, Dyanthlyn Clay; and one brother, Curtis Turner; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Hawthorne was born Dec. 29, 1939 in Bonita, and passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at her residence in Winnsboro. She was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by his father, Armor Carlton Herrington; mother, Georgie Evelyn (Vail) Herrington; brother, Bob Herrington. Survivors include her husband, Nile H. "Sam" Hawthorne of Winnsboro; two sons: Ivan Hawthorne and wife Sonja of Winnsboro; Jason Hawthorne of Winnsboro; daughter, Carol Hawthorne of Winnsboro; brother, F. G. Irene Elizabeth Jones Irene Elizabeth Jones was born March 6, 1926 in Wisner, and died July 18, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was a loving nurse, wife, mother, grandmother and a "Red Hat Lady" who was loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge and Ruth Tisdale; husband, Richard Edwards Jones Sr.; son, William Howell Jones; daughter, Sue Thornburg. Survivors include: daughter, Tonda McLendon of Jena; two sons, Robert Jones of Ozark, MO; and Richard E. Jones Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Ardell Kinsman Mrs. Ardell Kinsman, 90, a homemaker of Wisner, died at her residence on Monday, July 13, 2009. Mr. Slaughter was born to the union of his parents Obie and Martha Jennings Slaughter on Nov. 21, 1921 in Liddieville, and went home to be with his Lord on July 17, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. Mr. Slaughter was a member of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents: Obie and Martha Slaughter; father and mother-in-laws: Rev. W. D. and Victoria Grant; daughter: Clara Frith; grandson: Jonathan Slaughter; two brothers: Louis and Newt Slaughter; and two sisters: Nettie Arceneaux and Callie Shaw. He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Betty Sue Slaughter of Monroe; six children: Jarrell Slaughter and wife Jeanette of Vicksburg, Miss.; Dowan Hornsby and husband Torris of Newton, Texas; Carlton Slaughter of Laurel, Miss.; Arlene Mize of Winnsboro; Mike Slaughter and wife Carolyn of Waterproof; and Richard Slaughter and wife Henrietta of Russellville, Ark.; one sister-in-law: Dell Slaughter of Winnsboro; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends Pallbearers were Michael Edwards, J.
