Margaret Mays Ellerman, a Winnsboro painter and art educator, will be the featured artist the month of August at the Ouachita River Art Gallery.

Her work will also be featured at the Gallery Crawl sponsored by the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, Thursday night , August 6, 2009 at the gallery on Trenton street.

Margaret will display her acrylic collages on canvas. In this body of work Margaret features unusual color and semi-abstract imagery using acrylic paint and painted papers.Margaret is an accomplished painter and art teacher who has been teaching workshops for children, teenagers, and adults in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas for more than 30 years.

Her landscape work is to be featured in Louisiana Life magazine later in the Fall.

She was the Northeast Louisiana Art Council's Outstanding Artist in 1998 and is a member of the Hoover Watercolor Society in Shreveport and the River Cities Art Association in Monroe.

Margaret currently teaches art at Franklin Parish High School in Winnsboro. She is married to Donnie L. Ellerman of Winnsboro. The Ouachita River Art Gallery, located at 308 Trenton Street in West Monroe, has been designated partof the Cottonport Historic Cultural District and is sales-tax–free on purchases of original art. The gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and admission is free.
