Kendre Smith, a 2008 graduate and basketball player at Franklin Parish High School, was selected to the American Southwest Conference East All Freshman team during his first year at East Texas Baptist University.

Smith, who saw action in 18 ETBU games, averaged 1.4 points per game and 0.5 assists as a guard for the Tigers.

A four year player while at Franklin Parish, Smith also runs cross country for the Marshall, Texas college.

East Texas coach Bert West praised Smith recently, saying, "Smith is a quality addition to the ETBU program, both on the floor and in the classroom.

"He has outstanding speed and quickness and is part of one of the quickest, most athletic, deepest group of point guards in recent years with the Tigers."

Smith is the son of Eric and Bobbie Ignant and Henry and Dequana Rose and is a business/accounting major at the college.
