Library begins summer reading program June 17 The 'Once Upon a Time' summer reading program at the Franklin Parish Library will begin June 17 and continue until July 23.
Children up to the third grade will meet in the Learning Center of the Library on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Children in grades fourth and up will meet at 2 p.m. in the Learning Center. Children who want to participate in the reading program in Wisner, will meet at 3 p.m. on Thursdays at the Wisner branch.
The Louisiana Statewide Summer Reading Program, now in its 26th year, is designed to foster children's enjoyment of books, reading and library use through child-appealing activities. Programs this summer will feature fun things to do at Louisiana's state parks. Uncle Wayne and his Porta Puppets will be at the library for Rhyme Thyme. Other programs will include Chuck Galey, an author and illustrator, the magic of Nathan Roberts and Moby Pincher the Crawfish. Children in Wisner can enjoy programs such as fractured fairy tale, Alyson Franks and "It's Fun to Be Fit," Nathan Roberts' magic show, Moby Pincher and many more. Teens will also compete in Guitar Hero and other games.
Children may begin registering at the Franklin Parish Library. They will receive a reading log and bookmark for joining. Certificates will be awarded to children who read this summer and turn in their reading logs at the end of the program.
