Patriots spring drills end

Franklin Parish High School completed spring football drills about midway of this month with a three-team matchup that saw the Patriots come out dead even.

With each team playing a regulation quarter, Franklin Parish tied Richwood 6-6 and Block 0-0. Block and Richwood tied 6-6 in the round robin play.

FPHS Coach Barry Sebren said he was pleased with the spring practice, "because the defense looked better this spring than in the past."

As the scores indicate, defenses were the stronger parts of each team's games.

He said the main purpose of the spring practice was to, "lock down some starting positions and find depth at every position."

Depth may provd to be a problem for the Patriots, who dressed out only 39 players for the seasonal practice. Usually, Sebren said, about 55 players on on hand for practice in the spring.

Youth is another factor facing the Patriots for the upcoming season.

"There will be only a couple of seniors on either side of the ball," said Sebren of the 2009 team.

Tyler Roberts was cited by the Franklin Parish coach as having had a good spring practice along with several defensive players: safety Wilson Curtis, cornerback Tevin White, defensive back Ladarion Jones and defensive end Hunter Guillot.

Franklin Parish opens with Mangham in an August 28 jamboree and travels to Delhi for its first game on Sept. 4.
