Baskin election set third time Baskin voters are candidates to be charmed.
They head to the voting booth Saturday for the third time, the number of times needed for the proverbial charm in folklore.
But, it's a Chief of Police the 177 voters will be selecting following a general election and a runoff which ended in a 36-36 tie between candidates Dan Barber, the current chief, and challenger C. R. "Buddy" Dear.
A single vote separated the two candidates following the general election with Barber holding a 29-28 margin over Dear. Dan Chase, another candidate, was eliminated in the general election with 20 votes.
As with the previous two elections, early voting was reported as light at the start of the week. Barber is a former Baskin alderman who was appointed to the position of Chief of Police and Dear is a former deputy with the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Department who resigned to pursue the elected office.
Both candidates are long-time residents of Baskin. |
