WE students prepare for field trip
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The students and staff at Winnsboro Elementary are working hard to improve behavior, academics and the school's reputation. The students' scores improved over thirteen points last year and school administrators are expecting to see a substantial increase again this year.

Due to the success of last year's trip, community members are once again helping to motivate students to do their best on the LEAP and iLEAP tests by sponsoring another field trip to Blue Bayou Waterpark in Baton Rouge. Students who were not eligible to go on the trip last year are working now to score high enough to be included this year. For most of the children, last year's trip was their first experience at a water park and their first ride on a chartered bus.

Three checks were presented to Winnsboro Elementary Principal Fay Philips on Friday to sponsor the trip to Blue Bayou this year. Betty Lynn Burns, supervisor of Winnsboro Bingo, Betty Johnson of the Franklin Parish Black Achievers and city council member for District 3, along with Barry Sebren of Franklin Parish High School Athletics, donated a total of $600 to fund the field trip.

Winnsboro Elementary Principal Fay Philips said the goal this year is to increase the number of students participating in the excursion from 60 students to 75 who meet eligibility requirements.
