Alice Welch Crafts
Funeral services for Alice Welch Crafts, 67, of Winnsboro, were held Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Floyd Hawthorne and Rev. Eric Day officiating under the direction of Gill first National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Crafts was born to the union of her parents: Grady and Velvia Basham Welch Sr. on April 16, 1942 in Winnsboro, and passed from this life Tuesday, April 28, 2009 Willis Knighten Hospital in Bossier City. She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Crafts is survived by her husband Raymond Crafts of Winnsboro; sons: Raymond Crafts, Jr. and Rick Crafts, both of North Adams, Mass; Paul Crafts and Robert Crafts and wife Carrie all of Lake City, Fla.; Marshall Rigdon, Marlan Crafts, and Mixon Crafts and wife Candy all of Winnsboro; sisters-in-law: Martha Stone of Homestead, Fla. and Mary Talisack of Manassas, Va.; brothers: Grady Welch Jr. of Baskin; Edward Welch, Simmie Ray Welch both of Winnsboro; James Welch of Olla; William Welch and Robert Welch of West Monroe; Timothy Welch of Eros; Jesse Welch of Freeport, Fla.; and Jack Welch of Pineville; sisters: Mildred Heath of Laurel, Miss.; Darris (Doris) Frizzell of Olla, and Leonia Meadows of Jena; 18 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Nolan Hawthorne, Jay Meadows, Michael Crafts, Robert Parks, James Stephson and Murle Welch.

Alvin Copeland Harper
Graveside services for Alvin Copeland Harper, 84, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Crowville, will be 2 p.m. May 9, 2009 at the Crowville Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Harper officiating under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on May 9, 2009 at the funeral home.
Mr. Harper was born March 11, 1925 to the union of his parents Arthur Harris and Lilly Pylant Harper and passed from this life on Thursday, April 30, 2009. He was a resident of Summerville Ocala West Alzheimer Care Facility. After graduating from Crowville High School he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he served from 1943 to 1945. After service he received his B. S. Degree in 1952 from Louisiana State University, his M. S. Degree in 1954 from Louisiana State University, and his PHD in 1962 from Purdue University. Mr. Harper spent 27 years with Louisiana State University in various administrative capacities including Executive Vice-President and Chancellor of the Agriculture Center before retiring in 1984. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener He is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lillie Sistrunk Harper; son: Steven Wayne Harper; brothers: James Harper and Arthur Harper; sisters: Doris Ashley, Mattie McDuffie, and Maurice Craft.
He is survived by his wife: Kathryn Dawson Harper of Ocala, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Kay Harper of Yukon, Okla.; one brother: Hollis Harper; four grandchildren: Kristin Harper, Kyle Harper,Amy Harper and Scott Harper; and other nieces and nephews.

Shirley Faye Hodges Looper
Funeral services for Shirley Faye Hodges Looper, 69, of Stuttgart, Ark., were held Tuesday at Jesus Name Church of Christ with Bro. Guy Looper and Bro. Homer Looper officiating.
Burial followed at Lone Tree Cemetery, under the direction of Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Mrs. Looper went to be with her Lord, Sunday, May 3, 2009.
She was born June 29, 1939 in Wisner, La., to Homer and Ruth Hodges.
Mrs. Looper married Rev. Buddy Looper in 1958 and moved to Stuttgart and became the pastor's wife of Jesus Name Church of Christ. For 42 years, they faithfully labored together. Besides being the pastor's wife, she was a homemaker, school teacher and mother to not only her five children, but to a flood of other teens that stayed in her home. She dedicated her life to her church and her children and grandchildren. She was an outstanding musician and singer and was an inspiration to everyone who met her. She will be greatly missed by not only her friends and family, but also by the community where she lived.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Buddy Looper; her parents; son Jonathan David Looper and sister, Irene Parker.
Survivors include one sister, Lillian Hayes and husband, Curtley, Meadville, Miss.; four children: Rev. Guy Looper and wife Lesa, Stuttgart; Kathryn Waddles and husband Billy, Scott, Ark.; Claudia Harlin and husband Carl of Stuttgart; Rev. Homer Looper and wife, Jodi, Silsbee, Texas; Randy Rankin and wife, Sherrie; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Looper, Stuttgart; 12 grandchildren: Earl Looper and wife, Heather; Eric and Lorene Looper; B.J. Waddles and wife, Natasha; Kerri Uzzle and husband, Brandon; John Looper and wife, Lindie; Whitney Herring and husband Justin; Micki Michele Wallace, Tammy, Tiffany, Teri and Toni Looper; and four great-grandchildren: Colton and Hannah Looper; Lilliauna Waddles and Lee Uzzle.

Thomas D. Rider
Graveside service for Thomas D. Rider, 65, of Bossier City, were held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Ogden Cemetery near Liddieville, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Rider was born to the union of his parents Thomas and Annie Allen Rider on Feb. 15, 1944 in Winnsboro, and passed from this life on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Bossier City.
He is survived by his fiancée: Rebecca Wood of Bossier City; son: Michael D. Rider and wife Angela of Gilbert; daughter: Angie Guillot and husband Michael of Monterey; brother: Donnie Rider and wife Janis of West Monroe; sister: Virginia Bettge of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Lane Rider, Anna Kaye Rider and Emily Guillot; mother of his children: Linda Rider of Winnsboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bently K. (BK) Roberts
Funeral services are pending for Bently K. (BK) Roberts, 71, of Buchanan, Mich.
Services will be under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro.

Jimmy Lee Smith
Jimmy Lee Smith, 66, an auto mechanic of Baskin, died Sunday, May 3, 2009.
He served two tours in Vietnam as E-3 Lance Corporal with the 1st and 9th Marines, known as the "Walking Dead."
Funeral services will be Friday, May 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church and interment will follow at Baskin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Friendship Church beginning at 10 a.m. until service time.

Myrtice J. Taylor
Funeral services for Myrtice J. Taylor, 62, of Winnsboro, were held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Rayville. Interment followed in Greer Cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor was born Oct. 24, 1946 in Rayville, and passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Winnsboro.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Taylor of Winnsboro; two children, five brothers: Ronald, Roger, Clarence, Douglas, and Lavelle Ivy; half sister, Helen Hagard; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
