Posted 4/14/09 Catherine Wollerson Davis Funeral services for Catherine Wollerson Davis, 65, of Winnsboro will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday (today), April 15, 2009 at Wayside Pentecostal Church in Winnsboro with Rev. Roger Pete and Rev. Bill Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Memorial Cemetery in Winnsboro under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Davis was born June 23, 1943 in Winnsboro and passed from this life, Sunday, April 12, 2009 at St. Frances Medical Center in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Milton McKinnie and father-in-law and mother-in-law Fraim and Josephine Davis. Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband J.F. Davis, Jr. of Winnsboro; three children: Gary Davis and wife Christy of Baton Rouge, Kim Greer and husband Mickey of Calhoun; and Eric Davis and wife of Rebecca of Winnsboro; parents Alton and Muriel Wollerson of Winnsboro; sister, Marie McKinnie of West Monroe; five grandchildren: Mandy Sproles, Drake and Makenlea Davis, and Matt and Josh Greer; numerous nieces nephews, a host of other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Clark, Mike Stephens, Dennis Ray Wollerson, Warren Wollerson, Bernard Wolleson, Petey Wolleson, Skipper Wolleson, and Sonny Wolleson. Otis 'Spooky' Lynn Ferrington Funeral services for Otis "Spooky" Lynn Ferrington, 70, of Winnsboro, were held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Gill Chapel in Winnsboro with Rev. Doyle Adams and Rev. George Ferrington officiating. Burial followed at Shady Grove Cemetery near Jigger under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mr. Ferrington was born to the union of his parents George and Rosenia Mercer Ferrington on Feb. 10, 1939 in Jigger, and passed from this life on Thursday, April 9, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Bonnie Parker. Mr. Ferrington is survived by two sons: Terry Ferrington and Ricky Ferrington both of Winnsboro; two brothers: Rev. George Ferrington of Winnsboro, and Arnold Ferrington of Monroe; and the beloved mother of his sons: Joyce Spears King, of Gilbert. Pallbearers were Billy Joe Cupp, Phillip LaLa, Ricky Reeves, Louis Robinson, Eric Temple, and Marlin Valentine. Anita Southall Flint Funeral services for Anita Southall Flint, 76, of Winnsboro were held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in Lone Cherry Baptist Church near Mangham with Rev. Prentis Gandy officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. She was born to Robert Castion and Bernice Elaine Trim Boone on Feb. 2, 1933 in Winnsboro and passed from this life Sunday, April 13, 2009 in Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. She was a member of Lone Cherry Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Henry A. Southall, Sr. Mrs. Flint is survived by her children: Rose Hilbun Verrett and husband Glenn of Geismar, Robert Lynn Southall of Winnsboro, Thomas D. Southall and wife Peggy of Panama City, Fla., and Henry A. Southall, Jr. and wife Neecie of Rayville; one brother Joel Boone of Columbia; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. David 'Rolling Stone' Kline Funeral services for David "Rolling Stone" Kline, 50, of Mangham, were held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Lynn-Archibald Cemetery with Bro. Cecil Gregory and Rev. Howard Childs officiating, under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Kline, a truck driver, died April 8, 2009. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and a member of New Light Baptist Church. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Hospice TLC.
Harvey Glenn Laird Harvey Glenn Laird, 52, of Kirbyville, Texas, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Jasper Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Family services were held Friday, April 10, 2009 at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro with the Rev. Stacey Givens and Rev. Keith Joselind officiating. Burial followed at Chase Cemetery. Mr. Laird was born on Dec. 14, 1956 in Greenville, Miss., son of Harvey "Shorty" L. Laird (deceased) and Mary Vines. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey L. Laird; grandparents: Calvin Luther Laird and Beulah Terry-Horace Vines and Luginea Davis. Survivors include his mother, Mary Vines Laird, Kirbyville, Texas; one brother, Michael L. Laird and wife Roxie of Rigby, Idaho; two nieces: Mary Jill Laird and husband Michael Daniels; and Jamie Lynn Laird; one nephew: Jason Lee Laird; one great-niece, Jordan "Sweetpea" Ally see Laird. Pallbearers were Ronnie Fussell, Michael Rockhold, Johnny vines, Roger Laird, Neal Vines, and Lon Davis. Mr. Laird was a graduate of Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas, majoring in education. Mary and family appreciate all the love and support they received from family and friends during Glenn's illness.
Charlie C. Peterson Funeral services for Charlie C. Peterson, 69, of Wisner, La., were held on April 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Winnsboro, with Bro. Greg Clark officiating. Graveside services for Mr. Peterson were held on April 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Martin Cemetery in Graceville, Fla., with Rev. Chester Padgett officiating, under the direction of James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville, Fla. Mr. Peterson was born to the union of Cyrus L. and Nancy B. Peterson on June 5, 1939 in Blakely, Ga., and passed from this life on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at his home on Turkey Creek Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Peterson was a 1963 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He moved to New Orleans in 1965 and was employed by the dredging division of T.L. James, Inc. After working there for several years, he designed and constructed his own dredge, establishing A & P Dredging Co. In 1979, he moved to Winnsboro and began a land surveying company; and in 1988 moved back to his native state of Florida and began Charlie Peterson Surveying in Tallahassee. Mr. Peterson retired in 2004 and moved to Wisner, La. to be with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters: Nancy Dye and husband, Randy of Mangham; Charlyn Emfinger and husband, Jason of Winnsboro; Janine Garland and husband, Gregg of Calhoun; one son, Dennis Parker of Gilbert; two brothers: Carl Peterson of Marianna, Fla.; Frank Peterson of Graceville, Fla.; two sisters: Elizabeth Gates and husband Ray of Chipley, Fla.; Mary Holton and husband, Lunnie of Dothan, Ala.; four granddaughters: Angela Garland, Mary Margaret Peterson, Carlie Emfinger, and Candi Taylor; three grandsons: Grant Emfinger, Derek Parker, and Drew Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Robert Dye, David DeBlieux, Jack DeBlieux, Drew Parker, Troy Bostick, and George Faulk Jr. Serving at honorary pallbearers were Maurice Dye, Allen Emfinger, George Faulk Sr., and Raymon "Garball" Bennett. The family would like to give a special thanks to Vivian Hawthorne, Chaplin Howard Childs, and Sandra Pleasant for all their care and support.
Charlotte Cureington Robinson Funeral services for Charlotte Cureington Robinson 53, of Vicksburg were held Tuesday at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Jackson with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Graveside services followed at Chase Cemetery with the Revs. Kent Campbell and Johnny Hankins officiating. Services were under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home, Jackson. Mrs. Robinson died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Hospice Ministries in Jackson. Born in Alameda, Calif., she had been a longtime resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and prior to her illness was employed at the Vicksburg Street Clinic. Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie Lewis Cureington; sister, Peggy Cureington Jones; paternal grandparents Ray and Corletta Cureington. She is survived by her husband, Roy Robinson Sr., Vicksburg; son, Jason Temple and wife Beth, Jackson, Miss.; step-son, Roy Robinson Jr. and wife Nancy; step-daughters, Brandy Boyd and husband Lonnie; and Amanda Boyd, all of Vicksburg; her parents, Jimmie and Myrtis Cureington, Winnsboro; sisters: Regina David, Pearl Bryant, Jymme Lynn Miley; brothers: James Cureington, Charles Cureington; William Cureington, David Cureington; step-sister, Penny Lee; step-brothers, Keith Holley and Donnie Holley, Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Keith Holley, Donnie Holley, Mike Creel, David Cureington, Lonnie Boyd, Perry Boyd, Roy Robinson Jr., and Charles Ryan Cureington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Ministries, American Cancer Society, or Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Billy E. Temple Funeral service for Billy E. Temple, 38, of Tallulah were held at Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in Mangham Assembly of God Church with Rev. David Mosley officiating. Interment followed in Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Temple was born Jan. 10, 1971 in Monroe and passed from this life Saturday, April 11, 2009 in Pineville. He is survived by his mother Betty Johnson of Crowville; daughter Ashley Whitaker of Tallulah and her mother Stacy Whitaker of Newellton; brothers: Jimmy Johnson of Vicksburg, James Matthews of St. Joseph, Jerry Matthews of Hebert, and Doyle Johnson of Oak Grove; sisters: Rita Temple of Winnsboro and Susie Walker of Minden; "Mama-in-law" Betty Wright of Tallulah; friend Tom Jefferson of Tallulah; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Pallbearers were Rusty Bamburg, Bob Holloway, Tom Jefferson, Mark Jobe, Jordy Lee, and Jacob Sikes. Brad Mayberry was named honorary pallbearer.
