Runoff needed for chief spot While a low turnout of voters was expected for last Saturday's election for Chief of Police for the Village of Baskin, few expected a one-vote contest which would send the election into a two-man runoff.
Current Chief of Police Dan Barber held an unofficial one vote lead over C. R. "Buddy" Dear for the office following the vote count.
While Barber pulled 29 votes and Dear 28, Dan Chase collected 20 votes.
A total of 177 Baskin residents were eligible to vote in the election with only 77 persons voting.
All candidates had said before the election that a low turnout was expected.
Franklin Parish Clerk of Court said the results will be formalized through the state to prepare for the May 2 runoff.
Both candidates are long-time residents of the Baskin area. |
