Charles W. Sharp
Funeral services for Charles W. Sharp, 76, of Winnsboro will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), April 1, 2009 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Cory Bruce, Rev. Tommy Basco and Dr. Joe L. Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the funeral home.
Mr. Sharp was born on July 30, 1932 in Boyce, La. to the union of his parents, William Levi and Fannie Kelly Sharp, and passed from this life on Monday, March 30, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He was a deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Gideon International organization. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: William Gale Sharp and Argie Lee Sharp; two sisters: Dorothy Elaine Sharp and Joyce Evelyn Sharp Jungles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Myrtie Sharp of Winnsboro; daughter: Shela Sharp Freeman Arnold and husband Mike of Calhoun; son: Terry W. Sharp and wife Orene of Winnsboro; daughter: Patsy Sharp Carter and husband Donnie of Winnsboro; grandchildren: Matt Freeman, Jonathan Sharp and wife Hannah; Jennifer Sharp, Chad Carter and wife Carla; great grandchildren: Hannah Freeman and Isaac Sharp; brother: Dr. Joe L. Sharp and wife Barbara; sister: Yvonne Martin and husband Ed; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Pallberaers will be three grandchildren: Matt Freeman, Jonathan Sharp and Chad Carter; friends: Jodie Ellerman, Tim Martin, Peter Guimbellot, Todd Guimbellot and "Ed" Howard Bolton.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

David DeWitt Arnold
Funeral services for David DeWitt Arnold, 86, of Waverly were held Monday at Warsaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Marion Collier and Rev. Thomas Simons officiating.
Burial followed at Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home, Tallulah.
Mr. Arnold was born Oct. 29, 1922 in Sicily Island, and died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a retired farmer and had worked for the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge. He was also a WWII veteran.
Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Annie Bell Arnold, and nine siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Faye Arnold, Crowville; one son, David D. Arnold Jr., Crowville; four daughters, Annie Arnold, Jackson, Miss.; Kay King, Macon, Ga.; Janice Cooper, Crowville; Brenda McDonald, Tallulah; and former son-in-law, Teddy Howington, Wisner; one brother, Ray Arnold, Monroe; three sisters, Joan Cartlidge, Point; Sue Parker, Crowville; and Verlene Almond, Tallulah; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and was awaiting the birth of three more.
Pallbearers were Jason Brazell, Kenneth Wayne King, Robert Lopez, Jason Cummins, Jeremy Purvis and Greg Johnston.
Honorary pallbearers were Chris McDonald and Garth Sullivan.

David A. Clark
Funeral services for David A. Clark, 50, were held Tuesday at Wayside Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Mark Foster officiating. Interment followed at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Clark-Griffin Funeral Company.
Mr. Clark was born on May 24, 1958 in Winnsboro and died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. He was a truck driver and a member of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Clark.
Survivors include his parents Woodson and Inez Clark; sister, Belinda Clark; and aunt, uncles and cousins.

Ethel L. Higdon
Ethel L. Higdon, age 83, of Delhi, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Higdon was born Jan. 7, 1926 in Vivian, La. to Mike and Ethel Hendrix Dunham.
Mrs. Higdon lived most of her life in Franklin Parish. She was a faithful member of the Lamar Baptist Church. Mrs. Higdon will be remembered by her family as energetic and kind hearted. She was also very creative and had a passion for art. Through the years she has shared her knowledge and skills by teaching oil painting and charcoal art classes.
Mrs. Higdon has completed and sold many works of art in the community. She loved and enjoyed her church family, she had developed lifelong friendships with many who will remember her as a generous and trusted friend.
She will be greatly missed by a loving family and a host of friends, as she was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
Survivors are her husband Tracy Higdon of Delhi; two sons, Donald Higdon of Delhi; Mark McIntyre of Homer; a grandson Justin and wife Amy Higdon of Calhoun; granddaughters, April McPherson Lane and husband Bobby of Greenville, S.C., and Sidney Higdon of West Monroe; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Sullivan and Trivette Alcocer; one brother, Rev Marion Dunham of Largo, Fla.
Mrs. Higdon was preceded in death by a son, Rickey Higdon, a daughter Karen McPherson, her father Mike Dunham, mother Ethel Hendrix Dunham, her step father, P.D. Herrington; a brother Clyde Dunham; two sisters, Margaret McFadlin and Evelyn Captain.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Lamar Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Lamar Cemetery, under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.
Pallbearers were Allen Ogden, Bill Allen, Roger Ward, Marvin Huff, Paul Ogden and Penny Pennebaker.
Honorary pallbearer was Billy Joe Chapman.

Joshua Cole Taylor
Funeral services for Joshua Cole Taylor, 18, of Jigger, were held at Chase Pentecostal Church on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 12 noon with Rev. Jonathan Crist and Rev. Herby Hitt officiating. Interment followed at Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Josh was born Feb. 15, 1991 in Monroe, and passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He was a resident of Jigger, a painter, and a member of the Jigger Apostolic Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, "Buck" Givens
Survivors include his father, James Taylor and wife Brandy of Jigger; his mother, Karen (Givens) Chapman and husband Charlton of Mangham; maternal grandmother, Virginia Givens of Mangham; paternal grandparents: Sonny and Catherine Taylor of Tennessee; paternal great-grandmother, Juanita Taylor of Wisner; step brother, Eric Benson of Jigger; step sister, Sierra Chapman of Mangham; his beloved Aunt Carolyn Hutto of Jigger; his cousin who was like a brother and friend, Lance Hutto of Jigger; aunt Peggy Givens of Monroe; uncle Stacy Givens of Manhgam; aunt Joy Haller of Tenn.; aunt Cindy Taylor of Ga.; uncle Melvin Taylor of Wisner; and many other special and loving family and friends.
Pallbearers were Rocky Birely, Josh Nichols, Chris Guthrie, Terril Crawford, Shawn Mackie, and Zachery Morehead.
Honorary pallbearers were Lance Hutto and Chuck Ward.

Smiley 'Curley Bill' Ogden Jr.
Funeral services for Smiley "Curley Bill" Ogden Jr., 70, of Wisner, were held at Norris Hill Baptist Church on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Robinson and Rev. Don Blackmon officiating. Interment followed at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro
Mr. Ogden was born Dec. 30, 1938 in Wisner, and passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, La. He was a resident of Wisner, a farmer, and he served his country in the United States Navy .
He was preceded in death by his father, Smiley Ogden, Sr.; mother, Zelma Wade Ogden; and three brothers: George, Thomas and Jerry "Bull" Ogden.
Survivors include his son, Jason Ogden of Wisner; daughter, Kim and her husband Carey Knox of Wisner; brothers: Donnie and Kim Ogden of Fort Necessity; Charles "Bully" Ogden of Sicily Island; Vance and Mable Ogden; Nolan Ogden of Parrichutte, Colo.; sisters: Dorothy and Donnie Parker of Sicily Island; Mary and Hess Squalls of Port Gibson, La.; Helen Stewart of Ticfaw, La.; Bertha and Slim Roberts of Wisner; grandchildren: Caitlin and Alyssa Knox of Wisner; host of neices and nephews, family and friends; and two very special nephews: Punkin and Tony Ogden.
Pallbearers were Kevin Parker, Tyson Payne, Frank Knox, Charles "Punkin" Ogden, Buddy Compton and Rex Barton.

Magdalene Erwin Phillips
Funeral services for Magdalene Erwin Phillips, 86, of Winnsboro, will be held at the Church Of Christ of Jigger on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Bro. Eddie Erwin and Bro. Dennis Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Phillips was born Oct. 28, 1922 in Rosedale, La., and passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was a resident of Jigger, a homemaker, and a member of the Church of Christ in Jigger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyne Mitchell Phillips; father, William Estes Erwin; mother, Mimie Ophelia (Rogers) Erwin; daughter, Betty Bliss; son, Wesley Don Phillips; one brother and four sisters.
Survivors include daughters: Peggy Chapman of York, S.C.; Sherry Netherland of Jigger; Patricia Marty of West Lake, La.; Deborah Guarino of St. Charles, Mo.; Jude Jordan of Gilbert; Joy Phillips of Jigger; son, Doyle Phillips of Jigger; twin sister, Rosalene Knox; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Doyle "Mick" Phillips, Duane Chapman, Philip Jordan, Chantry Phillips, Adam Clark and Daniel Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Asa Box and Sherman Williams.
The family will receive friends at Church Of Christ of Jigger from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

Alice W. Rushing
Funeral services for Alice W. Rushing, 87, of Saint Joseph, formerly of Winnsboro was held at First United Pentecostal Church on Saturday, March 28, 2009 with the Rev. Floyd Hawthorne and Rev. Mark Powell officiating. Interment followed at Legion Memorial Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny J. Rushing and two children.
She is survived by three son and three daughters.

John Louis WelchFuneral services for John Louis Welch, 61, of Wisner, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home chapel, Monday, March 30, 2009, with Rev. Thomas Simons and Rev. James Simons officiating. Interment followed at Long Star Cemetery in Jackson Parish under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Welch was born Nov. 15, 1947 in Winnsboro, and passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his residence in Wisner. He was a member of the Fish Bayou Baptist Church in Swampers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clem B. Welch; mother, Hazel (Simons) Welch; two brothers: Floyd Garrett and James Garrett.
Survivors include a sister, Sarah Norwood of Winnsboro; six nephews and four nieces; and numerous friends, family and extended family at Metro Community residence: Beau Binford, Benny Biggs, John Bouchereau, Terry Tuggle, Keith Hasley, Mike Ferry, Theo Arnold.
Pallbearers were Beau Binford, Daniel Joiner, Maxter James, Bayles Williams, Thomas Putnam, and Sam Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Benny Biggs, John Bouchereau, Terry Tuggle, Keith Hasley, Mike Ferry, and Theo Arnold.
