School board discusses MOU The Franklin Parish School Board has called a special meeting Monday to help the public understand state prescribed conditions of future operation of the failing Winnsboro Elementary School.
Discussions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the board and state regarding the school will begin immediately following the regular agenda meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. at the school board office conference room.
The meeting was rescheduled from March 23.
"The time of the meeting has been changed to give more people a chance to attend," said board president Eddie Ray Bryan.
Issued on the recommendation of Education Supt. Paul Pastorek, the Memorandum of Understanding is a contract between the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and the local school board. An MOU outlines the process of improving a school that has been deemed academically unacceptable.
Franklin Parish School Board Supt. Lanny Johnson met with representatives from the Recovery School District recently to formulate the MOU for Winnsboro Elementary. Earlier this month, the plan was presented to BESE and will be voted on by members of the local board on Monday evening.
All parents, teachers and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend this public meeting.
During the special meeting held on March 23, board members passed a motion to advertise for bids on renovation projects at Fort Necessity and Gilbert schools. |
