Mangham gets three wins in Morgan City The Mangham Dragons continuted a fantastic start to their season sweeping through the Central Catholic tournament in Morgan City over the weekend.
Mangham (9-4) defeated Berwick 10-4, Central Lafourche 12-5, and pounded Catholic of Point Coupee in the title game, 15-2.
Against Berwick, Josh Wilson picked up the win on the mound and even made large contributions at the plate with his bat.
Wilson went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the game to pace a Dragons offense that put the game away with a six-run fifth inning.
Jared Dye started on the mound in the second game against Central Lafourche. Dye surrendered a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, before pulling out the victory. The Dragons trailed 5-2 early on but the Dragons responded with a run in the third inning, four in the fourth inning, and they exploded for five runs in the sixth to scratch out a win. Mangham did it all at the plate in the sixth inning. The Dragons executed on everything from the hit and run, to sacrifice bunts and also ran the bases well.
Mangham totaled 11 hits in the game with the big blow coming in the form of a home run from Karl Wiggers who continues to be the power at the plate for Mangham. In the finals, Kyle King picked up the win as he pitched five innings and smothered the Catholic offense in a 15-2 route.†
The Dragons had 13 hits in the contest. Mangham benefited from home runs by King, Wiggers and Jason Jarrett.† Jarrett and Wilson had three hits each while Wiggers, Alex Smart and Todd Duchesne added two apiece.
All-in-all it was a great weekend for the Dragons. Wiggers got six hits including two home runs in the tournament.
Alex Smart turned in another solid hitting performance with five hits while Todd Duchesne belted out four hits in the tournament.
Tuesday evening, the Dragons travel to Winnsboro to battle the Franklin Parish Patriots. The two teams had an outstanding game in the Mangham tournament a short time ago.
The Dragons will then head to the Caldwell Parish High School beginning Thursday afternoon. |
