Despite dressing out only five players because of injuries and girls leaving the team because they had to work, No. 21 seed Mangham High upset No. 12 seed St. Edmund's 53-30 in a first round Class A playoff contest Thursday in Mangham.

The Lady Dragons faced Plain Dealing Monday night. Results of the that game will be in next week's Franklin Sun.

Mangham, 16-13, led St. Edmund's 15-10 after one period and 26-22 at halftime.

The Lady Dragons outscored the Lady Bluejays 12-6 in the third quarter and 15-2 in the final period.

"We went from a zone in the first half to man-to-man in the second half and the girls really picked up the intensity," Romero said. "With only five players I have to call a time out to give them a rest. But they have been working hard and we had very balanced scoring, which was a big key to our win. We were taller and more physical than they were. I think our district and pre-district schedule have really worked to our advantage."

Derica Ausberry led Mangham with 14 points. Starlette Thomas had 11 points and 15 rebounds Rachel Boros added 12, while Kitty Pritchett chipped in 10 points.
