Story Archives: City council agenda brief

City council agenda brief
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Wnnsboro City Council regular meeting was expected to be short and sweet Tuesday night.

The agenda was short, only five items following roll call, including one alcohol license, monthly reports from fire and police departments, financial statement review and minutes approval.

"They're not often this short," said Mayor Jack Hammons, "but, the recent holidays had a lot to do with it and we got a lot accomplished before the end of the year. So, there was not much carry over."

City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for the third Monday of each month, but in January and February the meetings are on the third Tuesday because of schedule conflicts with federal holidays.

Looking to the February meeting, the council will likely hear final plans for the beginning of several construction projects.

A pending street overlay project is expected to require four months to complete and a combination of state and federal funds will be used to raise the $600,000 needed to complete a city community center and paved parking lot downtown.
