An eighth grade Crowville student has been named to an all-star junior high rodeo team for the 2008-2009 season and is one of only five selected for the honor.

Canon Fletcher, a 13-year-old, was named to the Wrangler Division All Star Rodeo Team of the National High School Rodeo Association. The division sponsors competition and recognition of students below high school levels.

Fletcher, who enjoys several activities outside the classroom, was selected for leadership qualities, academic eligibility and athletic achievements, according to a press release.
The NHSRA Wrangler Division All Star Rodeo Team is fashioned after Wrangler's Champion Pro Rodeo Team, which includes superstars Trevor Brazile, Joe Beaver, Dan Mortensen, Dustin Elliott, Kelly Kaminski, Will Lowe and Hall-of-Famer the late Jim Shoulders.

Fletcher, who is also active in church and 4-H programs, usually participates in four rodeo events and has been roping since an early age. His most recent competition was in a Mississippi rodeo event after Thanksgiving.

There are seven state-wide competitions for rodeo athletes during the academic school year with finals in May.

An honor student, Fletcher will demonstrate his some of his abilities at the upcoming Ag Expo which is scheduled in West Monroe later this month.
As a member of the Wrangler Division team, Fletcher receives official competition apparel including a Wrangler Twenty X shirt embroidered with the team logo and one pair of competition jeans.

In addition, team members receive an official team certificate signed by President of Wrangler Jeans and Shirts, Phil McAdams.
