Posted 1/6/09 Larry Gallagher Mr. Larry "Mossy" Gallagher, 56, a commercial fisherman of Winnsboro died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at Citizens Medical Center, Columbia. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Sarah Ann Ross Services for Sarah Ann Ross, age 68, of Fort Necessity, were held Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Bobby Ensminger and Rev. Hershel Clanton officiating. Interment followed in Boeuf Prairie Cemetery in Fort Necessity. Ms. Ross graduated from Fort Necessity High School in 1958; received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in Ruston, in 1962; Masters of Education from Northeast Louisiana State College in 1968; taught first year at Patterson High School in 1968; second year of teaching at Crowville High School; and taught 28 years at Winnsboro High School teaching Social Studies and English until retiring in 1993. Her hobby was tending her rose garden. Since her retirement she translated and bound the books of the Bible into her own interpretation. She was preceded in death by her parents: Willis Marion Ross and Virginia Mae Ross. Survivors include her sister: Mary Virginia Gordy and husband Bobby of Brandon, Miss.; brother: Thomas Marion Ross and wife Carol of Fort Necessity; nieces: Belinda Wiggins and husband Doyle of Winnsboro; Brandi Ross of Fort Necessity; Donna Casey and husband Leonard of Woodlands, Texas; and Dawn Galle of Knoxville, Tenn.; nephews: Shane Crum and wife Alicia, Terry Crum and wife Dawn, all of Fort Necessity; eight great-nephews and five great-nieces; special great-nephew: Chance Smith of Fort Necessity; special cousin: Glenda Sue Grivet; Ms. Ross's dog "Tiney" was her faithful companion. Pallbearers were Shane Crum, Steven Smith, James Moore, Robert Stewart, Jimmy Henderson, and Glynn Gallagher. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Ray Bryan and Tony Grivet. Bessie M. Stephens Oliver Sproles Funeral services for Bessie M. Stephens Oliver Sproles, 74, of Wisner were held Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Wisner with Rev. Mickey Gallop officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. Sproles was born to the union of her parents Victor and Mattie Ivy Stephens on July 28, 1934 in Union Church, Miss., and passed from this life on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at Mary Anna Nursing Home in Wisner. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband: Red Oliver; brother Kenneth Stephen. Mrs. Sproles is survived by her husband, Leslie Sproles Jr.; son: Nathan Oliver and wife Sandy, all of Wisner; stepson: Johnny Sproles and wife Barbara; stepdaughter: Donna Wilson; four grand daughters: Katie, Brooke, Haven and Katie Jo; three great grandchildren: Steven and Chealsy Wiley and Savanna Anderson; five sisters: Mildred McCurley, Lucy Stephens, Jean Brown, Elaine Ruthland and Jessie Locke; three brothers: Sherwin, Ray and Johnny Stephens; a host of others relatives and friends. Dorothy A. Jones Funeral services for Dorothy A. Jones, 79, of Wisner, were held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at Gill Chapel with Rev. Paul Perry officiating. Burial followed in Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Jones was born to the union of her parents: Dossie and Alma Hyles Jones on June 18, 1929 in Baskin, and passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008. She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: J. B., Earl, Elmer, and Nolan Jones. Mrs. Jones was survived by three sisters-in-law: Joann Collins, Mary Lou Bartholmew and Kathleen Jones; and a host nieces and nephews. Janet Burruss Temple A memorial service for Janet Burruss Temple, 59, of Winnsboro, were held Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Gill Chapel under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Temple was born to the union of her parents Lloyd and Elsie Little Burruss on July 31, 1949 in Santa Cruz, Calif., and passed from this life on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Tommie Temple; and two sisters. Mrs. Temple is survived by her children: Terry Baxley of Eads, Tenn.; Sandra McMurray of Liddieville; and Melinda Emfinger of Winnsboro; four brothers: Garlin Burruss of Bogota, Texas; Lucky Burruss of Petersburg, Va.; Dwight Burruss of Springfield, Mo.; and Jason Burruss of New Bloomfield, Mo.; five grandchildren and a host of friends. Rovanseek Stribling Funeral services for Rovanseek Stribling, 56, of Gilbert were held Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro. Burial followed at Ward Bend Cemetery in Gilbert. Mr. Stribling died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at LSU Medical Center in Monroe. Survivors include daughters: Cowanda Addison and Lizzie Addison, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; brothers: Evert Stribling, Gilbert; Brady Stribling Jr., Monroe; Micheal Stribling, St. Louis, Mo.; sisters: Evalean Moore and Naroudia Rhodea, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Evon Moffett, John McCottrey, Nathan Blanson, Brady Stribling II, Louis Brown Jr., and Ben Goldman.
Edna Lucille Jones Edna Lucille Jones, 86, of Gilbert died on her birthday, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at Franklin Medical Center, after a short illness. She donated her body to science. A short memorial is planned at a later date. She was born Jan. 1, 1923, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Winnsboro. Survivors include her brother J.L. Jones, and sisters-in-law Betty Jones of Winnsboro and Shirley Jones of Gilbert; nephews: Mike Jones of Winnsboro; Buddy Jones of Bourg, La.; Kim Jones of Natchez; nieces: LeiAnn Jones of St. Louis, Mo.; Janet Moore of Fort Necessity; and Gayle Boyte of Ferriday; and a host of great-nieces, nephews and cousins. |
