Franklin Parish Patriots travel to Sicily Island

The Franklin Parish Patriots (14-4) play in the Sicily Island tournament this week. The Patriots are coming off a victory over Lake Providence and will suit up for three games in Sicily Island this week.

"Our guys have been great about being focused," head coach Wystee Kerry said. "When we take care of the basketball, we have done well. We need to continue to fight hard on the defensive end and keep improving each game."

Brandon Sims and J.C. Winn continue to score in double-digits for the Patriots. The first contest for the Patriots will be against Block before they play the host team from Sicily Island.

Sicily Island (14-5) is also off to an impressive start in Class C. They have faltered as of late, losing two consecutive games coming into their own tournament.

They did defeat Delhi Charter, a 1A school, by a 29 point-margin back on Nov.18. This will also mark the fourth consecutive road contest for the Patriots. They return home Jan. 20 to host West Ouachita in a district 2-4A double-header with the Lady Patriots.

District play will begin on Jan. 13 when the Patriots and Lady Patriots visit the Bastrop Rams.

On the girl's side of the court, the Lady Patriots return to the court Jan. 2.
Franklin Parish (8-8) also took the trip to Lake Providence with the men and continue to get help from the trio of Jasmine Jones, Latonya Whitley, and Brendolyn Johnson.

Head coach Kristi Norman expects that the Lady Patriots will continue to improve thanks to the rest and extra practices.
