Patriots land seven on All 2-4A squad

The Franklin Parish High School Patriots landed seven football players on last week's all-district team representing district 2-4A.

Running back Adrian Garner and wide receiver Nick Williams were selected to the first team all-district squad.

Gardner led the Patriots in rushing and graduates with one of the best careers of any player under head coach Barry Sebren.

"Adrian (Gardner) was a go-to-guy for us," Sebren said. "He was one of the many bright spots during a season with some big time low points."
Gardner had his break-out game at Oak Grove when the senior ran for three touchdowns for Franklin Parish.

Nick Williams led Franklin Parish in receiving yards and touchdown catches in 2008. Williams played his senior season for the Patriots after moving over from Franklin Academy last year.

"Nick was a pleasure to work with," Sebren said. "We were lucky to get him from the (Franklin) Academy and he was a big contributor in our offensive success and game-planning this year."

Wilson Curtis, leading tackler for the Patriots made the first-team defensive unit as well. Curtis started every game in 2008 for Franklin Parish and was a sort of field general on defense.

"We had some good moments on defense," Sebren said. "Everything did not go to plan, but Wilson was always there to make a play and worked hard all season long."

Running back Tony Shaw led the way for Franklin Parish on the offensive second-team. Shaw had a stellar senior campaign in one of the stiffest districts in Class 4A for running back competition.

"Tony (Shaw) was a great running back in a district full of great running backs," Sebren said. "He worked hard and made some outstanding runs. This league has so many good teams and running backs it is tough."

Offensive lineman Derek Parker was also named to the second team all-district team on offense. Parker was part of a line that opened up the offense for Gardner, Shaw, and quarterback Sidney McMillan.

Corey Mikel was selected to the second-team on defense. Mikel had a break-out junior campaign in which the Patriots defeated Carroll on senior night with the defense holding the Bulldogs to only eight points.
