Story Archives: Patriots stay on road

Patriots stay on road

The Franklin Parish Patriots (13-4) are going to be spending a lot of time away from Winnsboro the next week of the season.

As the players take a two week break from classes, the team will be enjoying Christmas with family and friends while also hitting the court for some tough games ahead.

Last night the Patriots traveled to Madison Parish to battle the Madison Jaguars (8-4). Madison has been one of the strongest Class 2A programs over the last two decades and continues to beat high-ranked opponents year after year.

The team will enjoy a couple of days of Christmas cheer after visiting Madison. Following the Christmas holiday it is right back to work for the Patriots.

The team will travel to Lake Providence on Dec. 26 in a game where it might look more like a track meet than a basketball game with all the speed on the court for both squads.

The Patriots will close out 2008 on Dec. 29 with a round robin tournament at Sicily Island.

Franklin Parish has gotten off to a fast start thanks to the play of Junior forward Brandon Sims and J.C. Winn. Both players are averaging double-figures and contributing on both ends of the floor.

"We are getting better," Franklin Parish head coach Wystee Kerry said.
"We need to cut down our turnovers and that will come with time. We are scoring the ball pretty good right now."

The addition of Sidney McMillan at the point guard position after football season gave the team a much needed boost in depth that has given the team an extra bounce in their step.

Franklin Parish will not return home until Jan. 20 when they host West Ouachita in the first of back-to-back district games in Winnsboro.
