Several Franklin Parish residents received diplomas during the fall commencement exercises at the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday, Dec. 13. The ceremony was held at Fant-Ewing Coliseum at 2 p.m.

Those receiving degrees are listed below:

Barbara King Albritton
Barbara King Albritton, known to most as "Barbie," of Wisner received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from ULM on Saturday.

Albritton is the daughter of Wayne and Josie King of Wisner. She is the granddaughter of Gladys King and the late Dewey King of Gilbert, the late Laura Kenny Wilks Carpenter and the late Henry Albert Wilks of Wisner. Barbie is the mother of Haley Jo Albritton. She is a member of Apostolic Faith Chapel in Gilbert where Barbie teaches the toddler Sunday school class, serves as the junior drama team leader and is a member of the senior drama team.

Albritton is a 1995 graduate of Wisner High School and a 2001 graduate of Louisiana Technical College in Ferriday in practical nursing. She has worked as an LPN for eight years at Plantation Manor Nursing Center in Winnsboro and has recently accepted the director of nursing position at Plantation Oaks Nursing Center in Wisner. Albritton was an active member ULM's chapter of the student nursing association and served as parliamentarian for the past two semesters. She has also been twice invited to the Sigma Theta Tau Honors Tea for nursing students.

Susie Johnson
Susie Johnson of Winnsboro received her bachelor of arts and science degree in sociology from ULM on Saturday. As a student, Johnson was inducted into the Zeta of Louisiana Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society. Johnson has been named to the dean's list for academic honors and received her degree after only three years.

Aside from her studies, Johnson also managed a full-time job as assistant administrator of Rayville Nursing and Rehab Center. She is married to Jerry Johnson and they have three children and eight grandchildren. Johnson has plans to further her career by becoming a Louisiana nursing home administrator.

Amy Strickland Peters
Amy Strickland Peters of Crowville received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from ULM on Satruday.

Peters is the daughter of Cindy and W.R. (Buddy) Stickland Jr. and Ethel and Billy Williams. She is the granddaughter of Helen Strickland and the late Ray Strickland; Mary Ann Stapp and the late Roy Stapp. She is married to Ashley Peters of Crowville. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Crowville where she assists with children's church and Girls in Action.

Peters is a 1997 graduate of Crowville High School and a 2000 graduate of Louisiana Technical College in practical nursing. She has worked as an LPN for the past eight years and is currently employed by Delhi Hospital.
Peters was a member of the ULM chapter of the Student Nursing Association and a member of the Baptist Nursing Fellowship. Peters received the Peer Leadership Award from her classmates for the 2007 spring semester. She has also been twice invited to the Sigma Theta Tau Honors Tea for nursing students.

Shamya Poe
Shamya Poe, a 2004 graduate of Franklin Parish High School, formerly Winnsboro High School, received her bachelor of business degree in marketing from the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday.

She is a member of the business fraternity, Phi Sigma Epsilon and currently employed by J.P. Morgan / Chase Bank of Monroe.

Shamya is the daughter of Tonya Poe of Winnsboro and the late Terry Poe Sr.

Shatercia Cheneice Brass
Shatercia Cheneice Brass received her bachelor of art degree in social work from the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday. Commencement exercises were held at 2 p.m. at Fant Ewing Coliseum.
