Sam Anderson III
Funeral services for Sam Anderson III, 50, of Newellton were held Saturday at Magnolia Baptist Church in Newellton. Burial followed in the church cemetery, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Anderson; daughters: Nicole Bell, Monroe; Nykia Anderson, Newellton; sons: James Green and Derry Isaac, both of Newellton; brothers: Tom Anderson, Monroe; Ike Anderson, Stanley Caston and Robert Anderson, all of Winnsboro; sisters: Classie White, Linda Anderson, Martha Anderson, Dorothy Williams, and Vonda Hooker, all of Winnsboro; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were Jerry Martin, Richard Bass Sr., Joe Lee Percy, Derrick Whitney, Ambrose Bass, Elmo Onezine, and Roberick Williams.,
Gerry L. Clark Sr.
Graveside services for Gerry L. Clark Sr., age 53, of Baskin, were held Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Pleasant Hale Cemetery near Baskin, with Mr. Gilbert Reese officiating. Services were under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Clark was a welder and passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008.
Survivors include his son: Gerry Lynn Clark Jr. of Farmerville; daughter: Tamara Clark of Baskin; mother of children and friend forever: Teresa Hilbun Clark of Baskin; parents: Billy Ray Clark of Baskin, and Colleen Clark of Winnsboro; brothers: David Clark and Tommy Clark, both of Winnsboro, and Kenny Ray Clark of Baskin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Aubrey Spillers, Tookee Hilbun, Lavelle Williamson, Mike Weatherly, Roy Flint, Melvin "Buster" Williamson, and Jory Lowe.

Clifton 'Bert' Hawthorne
Graveside service for Clifton "Bert" Hawthorne, 67, of Bossier City, formerly of Winnsboro were held Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville with Rev. Mark Powell officiating the service.
He was born to Clifton Isaac and Bessie Louise Davis Hawthorne on May 22, 1941 in Winnsboro and passed from this life Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. Hawthorne worked as a chef in the offshore oil industry, and later became a crossing guard, who was loved and respected by so many school children. He had a great love for his family including his nieces and nephews and his cats.
He is survived by his brother Ronnie R. Hawthorne of Goodyear, Ariz.; sister Patsy Dayton of Bossier City; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Jon Dayton, Joshua, Dayton, Larry Dayton, and Tyler Dayton.
Honorary pallbearers were his great nephews Austin, Chance, and Collin.

Eddie Purvis Crawford
Funeral services for Eddie Purvis Crawford, 87, of Wisner will be held (today) Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Thomas Peoples officiating. Interment will follow at Central Cemetery in Wisner.
Mr. Crawford was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Enterprise to Adie and Edith Williams Crawford and he passed from this life on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 at his residence on Wisner.
He retired after over 50 years of work with Gilbert Oil Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wisner. He loved to hunt and fish at Enterprise Hunting Club. He enjoyed visiting his son and grandson and his special coffee drinking buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: A.W. Crawford Jr. and Floyd Crawford; sister: Mildred McCormick.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Vaudie Cruse Crawford; son: Eddie Wayne Crawford and his wife Suzanne McCarthy Crawford of Dallas, Texas; grandson: Nash McCarthy Crawford; brother: Johnny Crawford and his wife Thelma of Sicily Island; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Hospice Care Resources of Winnsboro for their special care and kindness.
Pallbearers will be Edward Bain, Field Brass, Bill Crawford, Bert Head, Billy Ray McCormick, and Glen McCormick.
Honorary pallbearer will be grandson, Nash McCarthy Crawford.

James Robert Polk
Funeral services for James Robert Polk, 26, of Fort Necessity were held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at Boeuf River Baptist Church in Liddieville with Rev. Kevin Bates, Rev. Joe Stroud, and Rev. Jimmy Harper officiating. Interment followed at Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Polk was born Aug. 24, 1982 in Monroe, to James Dewey Polk and Barbara Ann Franks Shacklett and he passed from this life on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008.
He was a heavy equipment operator who loved hunting, fishing, and mudhogging. He was a great father. He loved his job, the outdoors, and life in general. He was preceded in death by his grandpa: Dewey Polk.
He is survived by his wife Darby and their son Devin; father: James Dewey Polk of Winnsboro; mother: Barbara Shacklett of Tyler, Texas; brother: Mitchell Johns of West Monroe; sister: Keisha Polk of Winnsboro; grandma: Beverly Polk of Winnsboro; grandparents: Rosie and C.O. Franks of Monroe.
Pallbearers were Mitchell Johns, Josh Wiggins, Kevin Parks, Ben Denny, Logan Bennett, and Steven Smith.

Martha Potter
Funeral services for Martha Potter, 86, of Delhi were held Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Delhi. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Delhi, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.
Miss Potter died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 in Delhi.
Survivors include a sister, Fannie Crosby, Delhi; and John Potter, Winnsboro.
Pallbearers were Sylvester Wesley Jr., Bennie Brown Jr., Dwight Brown, Daryl Williams, T.J. Wesley, and Ray Guy.
Kay Lynn Watson
Funeral services for Kay Lynn Watson, 69, of Crowville were held Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at Crowville First Baptist Church with Rev. Marion Collier and Rev. Keith Dowden officiating. Interment followed at Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Watson was born Dec. 31, 1938 in Winnsboro to Jay and Kathryn Morse Payne and she passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at St. Frances Medical Center in Monroe.
She was a devoted mother and wife. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Beth Ann Watson; brother: Don Payne.
She is survived by her husband: Miller Watson; daughter: Lynda Watson; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Miller Watson, Tony Amos, Marion Collier, Ward Miller, Don Parker, Perry Payne, and Eddie Ward.

Lettie Moore Whitley
Funeral services for Lettie Moore Whitley, 84, of Gilbert were held Nov. 29, 2008 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Gilbert with the Rev. King Dawson officiating.
Interment followed at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Beckwith's Golden Gate Funeral Home, Tallulah.
Mrs. Whitley was born Oct. 6, 1924 and passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Whitley Sr.; parents Ben and Lettie Scott Moore; two children: Wilmer Whitley Jr. and Betty Whitley; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters: Josie W. Bingham Wisner; Julia W. Thomas, Winnsboro; Annette W. Simpson, Lancaster, Texas; and Frances W. Vaughn of Monroe; eight sons: Lonnie Whitley Sr., Miami, Fla.; Henry Whitley, William Whitley Sr., Robert Whitley, Wardell Whitley, Cardell Whitley, Milton Whitley and Sidney Whitley, all of Dallas, Texas; three sisters: Marie Moore Lewis, Monroe; Algertha Campbell, Galveston, Texas; and Mona Mitchell, Monroe; 34 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Pallbearers were Lester L. Thomas Jr., Darren J. Thomas Sr., Derrick Vaughn, NaQuinton Vaughn Sr., Charles Vaughn Jr., Kenneth Bingham, Kevin Bingham, Marcus Stone, Timothy M. Whitley, William Whitley Jr. and Thaddeaus Brooks.
