Posted 12/09/08 Sam Anderson III Funeral services for Sam Anderson III, 50, of Newellton were held Saturday at Magnolia Baptist Church in Newellton. Burial followed in the church cemetery, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Anderson died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Anderson; daughters: Nicole Bell, Monroe; Nykia Anderson, Newellton; sons: James Green and Derry Isaac, both of Newellton; brothers: Tom Anderson, Monroe; Ike Anderson, Stanley Caston and Robert Anderson, all of Winnsboro; sisters: Classie White, Linda Anderson, Martha Anderson, Dorothy Williams, and Vonda Hooker, all of Winnsboro; and one grandchild. Gerry L. Clark Sr. Graveside services for Gerry L. Clark Sr., age 53, of Baskin, were held Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Pleasant Hale Cemetery near Baskin, with Mr. Gilbert Reese officiating. Services were under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Clark was a welder and passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008. Clifton 'Bert' Hawthorne Graveside service for Clifton "Bert" Hawthorne, 67, of Bossier City, formerly of Winnsboro were held Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville with Rev. Mark Powell officiating the service. He was born to Clifton Isaac and Bessie Louise Davis Hawthorne on May 22, 1941 in Winnsboro and passed from this life Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Hawthorne worked as a chef in the offshore oil industry, and later became a crossing guard, who was loved and respected by so many school children. He had a great love for his family including his nieces and nephews and his cats. He is survived by his brother Ronnie R. Hawthorne of Goodyear, Ariz.; sister Patsy Dayton of Bossier City; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Pallbearers were Jon Dayton, Joshua, Dayton, Larry Dayton, and Tyler Dayton. Eddie Purvis Crawford Funeral services for Eddie Purvis Crawford, 87, of Wisner will be held (today) Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Thomas Peoples officiating. Interment will follow at Central Cemetery in Wisner. Mr. Crawford was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Enterprise to Adie and Edith Williams Crawford and he passed from this life on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 at his residence on Wisner. He retired after over 50 years of work with Gilbert Oil Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wisner. He loved to hunt and fish at Enterprise Hunting Club. He enjoyed visiting his son and grandson and his special coffee drinking buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: A.W. Crawford Jr. and Floyd Crawford; sister: Mildred McCormick. He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Vaudie Cruse Crawford; son: Eddie Wayne Crawford and his wife Suzanne McCarthy Crawford of Dallas, Texas; grandson: Nash McCarthy Crawford; brother: Johnny Crawford and his wife Thelma of Sicily Island; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Polk was born Aug. 24, 1982 in Monroe, to James Dewey Polk and Barbara Ann Franks Shacklett and he passed from this life on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008. He was a heavy equipment operator who loved hunting, fishing, and mudhogging. He was a great father. He loved his job, the outdoors, and life in general. He was preceded in death by his grandpa: Dewey Polk. He is survived by his wife Darby and their son Devin; father: James Dewey Polk of Winnsboro; mother: Barbara Shacklett of Tyler, Texas; brother: Mitchell Johns of West Monroe; sister: Keisha Polk of Winnsboro; grandma: Beverly Polk of Winnsboro; grandparents: Rosie and C.O. Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Whitley Sr.; parents Ben and Lettie Scott Moore; two children: Wilmer Whitley Jr. and Betty Whitley; and three grandchildren.
