Mangham, Delhi Charter advance to quarterfinals
The first time they met, a district championship was at stake.
Now there is even more.
Mangham and Delhi Charter advanced to the Class 1A quarterfinals and will meet Friday in with the winner within two games of playing for a state championship.
To have three teams in the quarterfinals (Oak Grove plays Haynesville) says a lot about our district," said Mangham coach Bo Meeks. "We've been playing playoff football long before the playoffs."
Delhi Charter defeated Mangham 42-27 in their regular season meeting to force a three-way tie for district. The Gators defeated Delcambre last week.
Both teams want to correct the mistakes they made in the first game," Meeks said. "We made a lot of mistakes. At this time of year, it's whoever makes the least of them. We have to do a better job of tackling, we missed too many. And Julien is a great back."
Mangham shut out Gueydan 26-0 to advance to the third round.
Our defense has done a great job the past few weeks," Meeks said. "We ran the football well, but missed a couple of big passes. Our offensive line dominated, especially in the second half.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Dragons used a 1-yard run by quarterback Josh Wilson for the only points it would need on the night.
Mangham took control in the third period, scoring on an 11-yard pass from Wilson to Michael Holland to go up 12-0.
Edward Blunt increased the Dragon lead with a 5-yard run before Shaquille Ausberry scored on an 8-yard run. Kyle King added his second point-after kick to complete the scoring.
Mangham finished with 296 rushing yards, holding Gueydan to 52 on the ground and minues-12 on the ground.
Blunt led the Dragons wtih 138 yards on 190 carries, while Wilson completed 10-of-23 passes for 100 yards.

Receiving— Mangham, King 2-46, Holland 7-44.
Meeks said the goal before the season was to win district and still be playing at Thanksgiving.
