Story Archives: Trail of Trees decorate city in style

Trail of Trees decorate city in style

To help celebrate the holiday season in style, the Winnsboro-Franklin Chamber of Commerce will once again sponsor the "Trail of Trees" located along the walking trail on Highway 15 south in Winnsboro.

Businesses or individuals who wish to participate in the "Trail of Trees" event may purchase one or more trees through the Chamber office. According to Lindy Price, who chairs the Trail of Trees committee, a few trees are still available for purchase.

Trees to be placed along the trail will be approximately eight feet tall and will cost $25 each for Chamber members and $35 each for non-members. Signs depicting your business and/or honoree's name will be $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

"This charge includes free tree set-up and removal provided by the Winnsboro City crew who so graciously donate their time to help make our community shine this holiday season," said Price.

"Participants will be required to place lights and decorations on their tree prior to the official tree lighting scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2 and must have all lights and decorations removed by Sunday, January 4, 2009."

Trees will be put up and ready for people to begin decorating on November 21.

"We have had such great support for the 'Trail of Trees' project – so much so that we have been required to increase the number of trees we order for our community participants," Price added. "We've already booked 50% of our trees and anticipate selling out relatively early this holiday season.

"Because of this early interest, we're encouraging people to reserve their trees as soon as possible."

In addition to local business participants, trees may also be decorated along the trail in honor of or in memory of a loved one.

If you participated in the "Trail of Trees" in the past and purchased a sign, please check with the Chamber office to make sure your sign is still available. If it is on file, you will not be required to purchase another one this year.
