Posted 11/25/08 Kathryn Almand Etzel Funeral services for Mrs. Kathryn Almand Etzel, age 81, were held on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church Chapel in Ruston, La. Dr. Rick Byargeon and Rev. Dale Oden officiated with burial to follow at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, La. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Kathryn Almand Etzel went to the Lord on November 20, 2008 after suffering a lengthy illness. She was born on June 30, 1927 and spent her 81 years as a wonderful mother and teacher. Mrs. Etzel taught high school English at Winnsboro High School for 36 years, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. E". She also taught in Summerfield, La., Delhi La., Emerson, Ark., and Houston, Texas. During her lifetime, she served in the church as an organist and teacher. She loved the WMU circle and her Sunday school classes in Winnsboro at First Baptist Church and later, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. She was a graduate of Haynesville High School and Baylor University, where she majored in piano and organ. She received a second Bachelor of Arts at Baylor in English. She received her Masterís degree and plus 30 from Northeast Louisiana University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Almand, her first husband, Harold Dubose, her second husband, Dr. W. W. Etzel and son, Dodge Almand Etzel. Survivors include her daughter, Elicia Etzel Nugent and husband John; son, Todd Etzel and wife Becky; daughter, Angel Etzel Causey and husband Mike; grandchildren: Erik Etzel and wife Jennifer, Sarah Etzel Baur and husband Harold, Ethan Etzel, Angela Nugent, Rachel Nugent, Jonathan Nugent, Ellen Nugent, Kathryn Causey, Annie Etzel, Claire Causey, Blake Etzel, and Caroline Causey. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Annabeth Etzel, Alex Etzel, Caroline Baur, and Addison Baur. Pallbearers were Erik Etzel, Ethan Etzel, Jonathan Nugent, Blake Etzel, Harold Baur, Mike Womble, Wes Lowe, and Rodney Newsom. Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Marcus, Bill Russell, Robert Gwin, and Bobby Nelson. Elwyn C. Lyles Services for Elwyn C. Lyles, 76, of Mangham, were held Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Mangham Baptist Church in Mangham, with Rev. Rick Aultman and Rev. Jimmy Eppinette officiating. Burial followed in Gwin Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Lyles passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. Mr. Lyles was a retired high school teacher and administrator for 30 years. During this time, he served as science teacher at Winnsboro High School and principal at Mangham High School and Franklin Academy. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and a veteran for the United States Army. After retiring from the educational field, Mr. Lyles worked as an X-ray technician for Abraham Medical Clinic. He was an active member of Mangham Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the F.E. William Edward Dingler A graveside service for William Edward Dingler, 78, of Harrisonburg, La. were held at Oak Grove Cemetery near Manifest, La. on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 with Rev. Mr. Dingler was born Dec. 23, 1929 in Fowles, La., and passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at Rapides General Medical Center in Alexandria. He was a resident of Harrisonburg and served in the Army during Korea. He was preceded in death by his father, George Dingler; mother, Francis (Dobson) Dingler. C.B. 'Bob' Herrington Funeral services for C.B. "Bob" Herrington, 73, of Winnsboro, were held Tuesday Nov. 25, 2008 from the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Eric Andrews and Sam Noble officiating. Interment followed at Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville. Mr. Herrington was born Sept. 12, 1935 to Armor and Georgie Vail Herrington in Quitman, La., and he passed from this life on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at Louisiana Extended Care in West Monroe. He served in the United States Marine Corps and he was a member of the Apostolic faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Bobbie Jean Massey. Noah James Martin Funeral services for Noah James Martin, 71, of Winnsboro were held Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Liddieville. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Martin died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at LSU Medical Center in Monroe. Survivors include his wife, Ruby J. Clayton Forysthe Cotten Funeral services for Clayton Forysthe Cotten, 93, of Sicily Island, were held at First Baptist Church, Sicily Island on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 with Rev. James Gass and Rev. Kenneth Hoots officiating. Interment followed at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mr. Cotten was born Nov. 6, 1915 in Walters, La., and passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. He was a resident of Sicily Island, retired from the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sicily Island. He was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Cotten; mother, Elizabeth (Purvis) Cotten; wife, Ira (Blaney) Cotten; brother, Roy Cotten; sister, Dollye Malone; and grandsons: Jason and Jody Ashley. Edwin Durrell Hays Funeral services for Edwin Durrell Hays, 67, of Crowville, were held at Crockett Point Baptist, Crowville on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 with Rev. Jimmy Goodman and Rev. Mr. Hays was born July 6, 1941 in Euporia, Miss. and passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center Winnsboro. He was a resident of Crowville, a truck driver, and a member of the Crockett Point Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hays was preceded in death by his father, John Sealy Hays; mother, Eutelle (Orr) Hays; three sisters, Pauline Miller, Geraldine Johnson, and Frances Hays; two brothers, William Hays and Robert Hays. Survivors include his wife, Joye Hays of Crowville; three sons: David and wife Elizabeth of Canton, Miss.; Gary and wife Lori of Cleveland, Miss.; Larry and wife Annie of Burnsville, Miss.; three daughters, Kathy Cottingham of Winnsboro; Renea Stephens and husband Billy of Hamilton, Miss.; Jenny Martin and husband Kevin of Crowville; sister-Kathleen Ray of Water Valley, Miss.; brother, James "Junior" Hays and wife Jane of Kennett, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews. William R. 'Billy' Riser Graveside services were held for William R. "Billy" Riser of Crowville, on Nov. 17, 2008, at the Netherland-Riser Annex of the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery at Crowville. Bishop Rodney McFarland Sr., pastor of the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church of Monroe officiated with Dr. Keith Dowden, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Crowville, assisting. Billy was born March 6, 1942 in Crowville and died at home on November 15, 2008 surrounded by family. He was an inspector for McManus consulting engineers of Monroe, and a lifelong carpenter. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl Netherland-Riser; three sons: Darryl Riser of Mangham, Don Riser of Crowville, and Dale Riser and wife Emily Smith Riser of Greenwood, Miss.; grandchildren: Emily Kate Riser of Harrell, Ark. and Ana Jane and William Smith Riser of Greenwood, Miss.; one sister, Mildred Cruz of Blanchard and two brothers, Denson Riser of Shreveport and Troy Riser of Winnsboro. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Faye Riser and Oneal Riser. Billy's unique spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Honorary pallbearers were Warren Netherland, Tim Pylant, Steven Pylant and Nick Greer.
