Franklin Parish High School announces paper recycling event From Nov. 10, 2008 – Jan. 9, 2009, the Franklin Parish High School Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America is inviting the general public as well as the business community to drop-off their old newspapers and magazines at our high school business department.
When you think of all the junk mail you accumulate and the magazines that pile up, it's easy to see how paper products make up the largest part (approximately 40 percent) of our trash. Where some municipalities, offer residents the option to recycle at the curb, there are few convenient options available for recycling in Franklin Parish.
Every major movement of change begins with individuals. Each one of us can make a difference and help save the earth by pledging to recycle all of our clean waste paper. By recycling even just two bags of paper each week, in one year's time you will save the equivalent of nine trees, 120 gallons of fuel and prevent the production of one and a half tons of carbon dioxide.
This is an opportunity for our parish to work together, build camaraderie, offer a community service and help preserve our environment. Volunteers are needed—businesses, churches, and schools are encouraged to establish a newspaper/magazine drop off point at their establishment. FBLA members would pick up collections on a weekly basis.
The public is welcome to drop off office paper, junk mail, school papers, newspaper, magazines, and shopping catalogs between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Franklin Parish High School Business Department. Newspapers must be clean and dry.
At the conclusion of the recycling event, all collections will be transported to Applegate Insulation in Monroe where they will pay us $.03 cents per pound. All proceeds will be donated to the Good Samaritans of Franklin Parish to be used for purchases for their food pantry.
