Albert Simmon Bass
Funeral services for Albert Simmon Bass, 74, of Zion, Illinois, formerly of Newellton, were held Saturday at Magnolia Baptist Church in Newellton. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bass died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at his residence.
He is survived by daughters: Annette Jackson, Emma Bass, both of Newellton; Tomazina Bass of Lake Providence; Debra Downs, Denise Downs, both of Zion; step mother Adline Bass; brothers: Coleman Bass, Eugene Bass, Donnie Bass, Richard Bass, Micheal Bass; sisters: Hazel Thompson, Denise Holcomb and Shirley Watson of Newellton; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Felix 'Blackie' Blackmon
Funeral services for Felix "Blackie" Blackmon, 74, of Haslet, Texas, formerly of Monroe, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 with Rev. David Philips officiating. Interment followed at Gwin Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Blackmon was born April 25, 1934 in Mangham, and passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at James L. West Center in Ft Worth, Texas. He was owner of Rayville Glass and Mirror Co., a member of the Moose Lodge, and Davis Island on the Mississippi River Hunting Club.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Caruthers) Blackmon; father, Eubie Devotis Blackmon; step mother, Laudie Long Blackmon; mother, Allie Myrl (Frye) Watts; step father, Charlie Watts; three brothers: Ernest Reid Johnston, Al Blackmon, and Roy Blackmon.
Survivors include his daughter, Diana (Blackmon) Maston of Haslet, Texas; son, Philip Devotis Blackmon of Haslet, Texas; three sisters, Anne Wood of Newport News, Va., Dora Gwin of Baskin; Myrl Barmore of Mangham; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers were Travis Blackmon, Joey Thomas, Bobby Earl Parker, Paul Gwin, Matt Gwin, Gary Hebert, and Mickey Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were Wade Russell and Willie Nobles.

Gladys Girlinghouse
Services for Gladys Girlinghouse, age 97, of Winnsboro, were held Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial followed in New Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Girlinghouse was a homemaker and passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband: Quitman Girlinghouse; and sister: Irene Smith; brothers: Alexander Crick, Alvin Crick, and Lourene Crick.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

David Lee Hardy
Funeral services for David Lee Hardy, 65, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Winnsboro were held Saturday at Richardson-Sims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Lumpkin officiating.
Burial followed at Hope Estate Cemetery in Wisner, under the direction of Richardson-Sims Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mr. Hardy died Tuesday in Dallas, after a brief illness.
He is survived by son, Edric Dewayne Holmes of Winnsboro; sisters: Hattye Jackson, Baltimore, MD; Ava Beckum, San Francisco, Calif.; Alberta Washington, Houston, Texas.

Melinda 'Lindy' Heyen Henry
Funeral services for Melinda "Lindy" Heyen Henry, 62, of Athens, Texas were held Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.
Ms. Henry was born April 4, 1946 in Hamburg, Iowa to the late Harold and Helen Durfee Heyen, and passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 in Athens. She was a resident of Athens, and a former resident of Winnsboro, La. and Clear Lake, Texas.
Ms. Henry was a high school art teacher in Winnsboro, Athens, Clear Lake and New Mexico. She received her Masters of fine Arts from Northwestern State University in Louisiana.
She is survived by sons, Byron Henry of Tyler; Chris Henry of Baton Rouge; and Blake Brown of Belton, Texas; step-daughters, Jo Ellen Chism of San Antonio; Wendy Crump of Friendswood, Texas; six grandchildren; brother Richard Heyen of Baytown.

Jean Humphreys
Services for Jean Humphreys, age 81, of Delhi, were held Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Weldon Bares officiating. Burial followed in Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Humphreys was a homemaker and passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Minnie Belle Green: her husband: Willard Humphreys; and two children: Kenneth Humphreys and Frances Robbins.
Survivors include her daughters: Carolyn Odom, Sandra Fuller, and Pam Wyatt; sons: Jerry, Larry, Donnie, and Gary Lynn Humphreys; brother: Bob Green; sister: Juanice Radau; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Willard Newman, Ron Rowaine, Rex Mahaffey Jr., Harold Comeaux, Chris Franklin, and Josh Marshall.
Honorary pallbearers were Stacey Humphreys, Jodie Humphreys, and Rusty Humphreys.

Mary Bell James
Funeral services for Mary Bell James, 51, of Monroe were held Oct. 18, 2008 at Liberty Christian Center in Monroe with the Rev. Johnny Drumgole officiating. Burial followed at J.S. Clark Cemetery in Monroe under the direction of Richardson-Sims Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Ms. James died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at LSU-Conway in Monroe, following a brief illness.
Survivors include two sisters: Lee Ann Cooper, Monroe; Donna Wallace, Eureka, Calif.; three brothers: Jessie James, Albuquerque, NM; Johnny James, Monroe; Seanon James, San Diego, Calif.
Pallbearers were Sam Cooper, Cortez Carter, Christopher Manning, Kenneth Blankenship, Rodrick Cardley, and Artis Dewayne James.

Annie Jordan
Funeral services for Annie Jordan, 91 of Monroe, formerly of Foules will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Zion Baptist Church in Foules with the Rev. T.A. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Richardson-Sims Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jordan died Tuesday at Golden Age Center in Monroe.
She is survived by one sister, Ida Evans of Monroe.

Steve McDaniel
Graveside services for Steve McDaniel, 80, of Baskin, were held Tuesday at McDaniel Cemetery in Kelly, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. McDaniel was born June 15, 1928 to James and Mae Olivo McDaniel in Columbia, and he passed from this life on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at his residence in Baskin.
He loved to watch wrestling and westerns and he loved his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Alice McDaniel; son: Steve Allen McDaniel; daughter-in-law: Beverly "Peanut" McDaniel.
He is survived by nine children: Lillian Hopkins, David James, Connie Graham, Walter McDaniel, Mike McDaniel, Ann Williamson, Pat Glass McDaniel, Christopher McDaniel, and Steven McDaniel; sister: Lucille Lee; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Georgia Lee Brass Orsberry
Funeral services for Georgia Lee Brass Orsberry, 78, of Hawkins, Texas were held Sunday at First Zion Baptist Church of Winnsboro with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Sims-Gethsemane Garden Cemetery under the direction of Richardson-Sims Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mrs. Orsberry died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 in Hawkins, following a lengthy illness.
Survivors include two daughters: Shirley M. Orsberry, San Francisco, Calif.; Daphane Singleton, Ft. Worth, Texas; three sisters: Luminda Foy, Winnsboro; Alean Brass and Henry Jean Harris, both of California; three brothers: John Brass, Russell Brass and Charles Brass, all of Winnsboro; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Calvin Brass, Charlie Brass, Ken Brass, Kenneth Brass, John Martin, Elzie Martin, Veron Foy, Micheal Brass, Andre Foy, Felton Foy, James Foy and Patrick Foy.

Lorene Cranford
Services for Lorene Cranford, age 92, of Wisner, LA were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial followed in South Central Cemetery near Wisner, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Cranford was a retired store clerk and a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church of Wisner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. "Bush" Cranford; mother-in-law: Rose Cranford: parents: Mr. and Mrs. James W. Brown; three sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include two brothers: Frank Brown and wife, Joy of Mobile, Ala.; Raymond Brown and wife, Sarah of Alabaster, Ala.; a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mark Batey, Ronald Beach, Nathan Oliver, Mike Beach, Carl Haring, Ken Batey, Jeff Robinson, and Don Batey.
Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Kiper, Mike Caldwell, Darrell Beach and Carl Batey.

Cleo Cupp
Funeral services for Cleo Cupp, 90, of Baskin were held Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 in the Gill First National Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro. Interment will follow in Coax Cemetery near Baskin with Rev. Paul Perry officiating.
Mr. Cupp was born to John Randolph and Mary Alice Carl Cupp on June 19, 1918 in Athens Texas, and passed from this life Monday, Oct. 21, 2008 in St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
Mr. Cupp, a retired farmer, was a veteran of the 9th Army Division where he served in the 19 Tank Battalion. He loved music and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Lily Anderson, Laura Bell Nations, and Edna McKenzie; and seven brothers Roy Cupp, Wilburn Cupp, Johnny Cupp, Melvin Cupp, Loyd Cupp, Leonard Cupp and Chester Cupp.
Mr. Cupp leaves behind his wife of 62 years Lucille Jordon Cupp of Baskin; two daughters Thelma Crook of Gilbert, and Peggy Purvis and husband Bob of Baskin; one son Donald Cupp and wife Beverly of Mangham; one brother Floyd Cupp and wife Leona of Texas; grandchildren Alan Cupp and wife Jennifer of Mangham, Christopher Cupp of Monroe, Angie Howard and husband Timmy of Gilbert, Buster Crook and wife Jan of Calhoun, Jeffery Purvis and wife Lynda of Baskin; great grandchildren Bryan Cupp, Lilly Cupp, Brittany Mathews, Amber Howard, Sami Crook , Alannah Crook, Matthew Purvis, and George Purvis; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends

William H. McKenzie
Funeral services for William H. McKenzie, 98 of Baskin, were held Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at the chapel of Gill first National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Victor Reagan and Rev. Melvin Reagan officiating. Interment followed at Reagan Cemetery in Baskin.
Mr. McKenzie was born April 16, 1910 in Delhi to Luther and Rose White McKenzie and he passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at Charlyn Rehabilitation Center in Winnsboro. He loved to dance and he loved working in his rose garden. He was preceded in death by his wife: Edna Cupp McKenzie; one son: Eddie Mckenzie.
He is survived by four children: Harvey McKenzie and his wife Lynn of Columbia; Evelyn Collinson and husband Ralph of Baskin; Voncille Reagan and her husband Bill of Baskin; Luther Mckenzie and his wife Laverne of Swartz; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Thomas Arender, James Collinson, David McKenzie, Mike McKenzie, Ricky McKenzie, and William McKenzie.

Troy E. Rushing
Services honoring the life of Troy E. Rushing were held Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment followed Stewart Walker Cemetery, Walkerville, Ark.
Mr. Rushing was born Sept. 8, 1935 in Winnsboro, and passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital. A graduate of LSU-Baton Rouge, he played basketball for the Tigers from 1953-1958. Troy retired after 30 years of service as a Senior Research Chemist for Pennzoil Products. He was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Troy was a member of the Sons of The American Revolution, Shreveport Writers Club and Centenary Writers Club. He has authored two books, "Hubcap Biscuits and Corncob Wars" and "Hominy Ridge". Troy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
His parents, Emmett and Reta McManus Rushing, preceded Troy in death.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara McMahen Rushing of Shreveport; son, Dr. Paul A. Rushing and his wife, Theresa of Shreveport; daughters, Dr. Donna Jane Rushing and her husband, Dr. Roan Flenniken of Shreveport, and Nancy Kaye Hayes and her husband, Kelly of Austin, Texas; sisters, Bernice McKeithen and her husband, Alton of Baskin, and Pauline Anthony of Monroe; brother-in-law, David McMahen and his wife, Becky of Dover, Ark.; grandchildren he adored, Jennifer, Jordan and Robin Flenniken, Heather and Lauren Hayes and Alan, Amanda, James and John Rushing; and nieces and nephews, Donnis Banks and her husband, Larry, Kathleen McKeithen, Landel McKeithen and wife Robbie, and John, Jimmy, Larry, Danny, David Anthony and their wives.
Honoring Troy, as pallbearers will be Dr. Charles McKenzie, David McMahen, Terry Day, Warren Harris, Landel McKeithen, Jimmy Anthony and Steve Balfe.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bryant Fowler, John Sardisco, Francis Meyers and Dr. Sam Thomas.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Paul C. Davis and Dr. Mark A. Brown for the professional and loving care shown to Troy.

Ida Estelle Sharp
Services for Ida Estelle Sharp, age 91 of Liddieville were held Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. George Bates and Rev. Kevin Bates officiating. Interment followed in Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Sharp was a florist for Mulhearn Flower Shop in Winnsboro and passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008.
Survivors include her son: Lloyd E. Williams and wife Donna of Liddieville; daughter: Arlene Cade of Liddieville; six grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Williams, Steve Weems, Ralph Weems, Mike Boyd, Kyle Williams, and Wayne Boyd.

Daisy Underwood
Funeral services for Daisy Underwood, 88, of Winnsboro, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 with Rev. Jimmy Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Underwood was born Aug.14, 1920 in Olla, La., and passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker, and a member of the Boeuf River Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Wiley E. Underwood; father, Charlie Norman; mother, Rosa L. (McBroom) Norman; two sons, Jerry Underwood and Norman Underwood; great-grandson, Heath Temple; two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her sister, Juanita Wright; four grandchildren: Adam Underwood, Nicole Cross, Spencer Underwood, and Adrian Whitman; eight great-grandchildren: Lewis Temple, Hannah Donnell, Marlo McDonald, Harley Whitman, Jordy Glass, Jess Glass, Grace Underwood and Chase Underwood.
Pallbearers were Jack Deblieux, David Deblieux, Ricky Johnston, John W. Powell, Ernie Norman, and Jim Whitman.

Emma Irene Wiggins
Funeral services for Emma Irene Wiggins, 89, of Winnsboro, will be held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Don Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Wiggins was born Feb. 2, 1919 in Winnfield, and passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at Charlyn Nursing Home in Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker and loving mother, and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Stafford Webb Wiggins; father, Jeff Watson Oliver; mother, Mary Alice (Franks) Oliver; son, Jeff W. Wiggins; two brothers: Hendry Oliver and Earnest Oliver; three sisters: Edna Neilson, Alma Milby, and Dovie Guimbellot; one grandson, Benjamin Wiggins.
Survivors include her son, Benny Wiggins and wife Susan of Mangham; three daughters: Jean Juneau and husband Jim of Pollock, La.; Ann Wiggins of Monroe; Betty Ruth Jones and husband David of Winnsboro;
daughter-in-law, Shelby Wiggins of Winnsboro; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Jones, David Jones, Glenn Juneau, Joel Humphries, Eric Long, and Dusty Smith.
