Posted 10/14/08 Donald Alton Nichols Funeral services for Donald Alton Nichols, 68, of Jonesville, were held at Meyers Bend Penecostal Church, Harrisonburg on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 with Rev. Mike Allen and Rev. Bill Cotton officiating. Interment followed at Tiffany Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mr. Nichols was born April 16, 1940 in Jonesville, and passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at Rapides General Medical Center in Alexandria. He was a resident of Jonesville, a carpenter, and a member of the Meyers Bend Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura (Harris) Nichols; father, Millord F. Nichols; brothers: Author Nichols and Johnnie Nichols; sister, Emma Floyd. Survivors include his wife, Cherris (Taylor) Nichols of Jonesville; son, Jamie Nichols and wife Ginni of Jonesville; daughter, Tammye Beard of Jonesville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Perry Slaughter, Danny Nugent, Dennis Nichols, Billy Floyd, Billy Harris, and Garry Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Zack Meyers and Huey Meyers. Lloyd P. Harvey Funeral services for Lloyd P. Harvey, 50, of Winnsboro were held Saturday at Truelight Baptist Church in Winnsboro. Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery in Winnsboro under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Lloyd died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. Survivors include a brother, Stevie Harvey, Plainsview, Neb.; Cheryl Williams, Belzoni, Miss.; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lee of Winnsboro. Marguerite Hayes Funeral services for Marguerite Clay Hayes, 73, of Ferriday were held Saturday at Church of the Harvest in Ferriday. Burial followed at Holly Grove Cemetery in Wisner, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Hayes, an school educator, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at St. Francis Cabrina Hospital in Alexandria. She is survived by a son, Glenn Hayes Jr., Ferriday; daughters: Debra Diane Gipson, Baton Rouge; Pauline Hayes Hutchinson, Clarksville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Derrick Hawkins, Jerome Harris, Otis Hollis, Derrick Robinson, Carlton Robinson, Dale Tyler and Leland Robinson.
Rita C. McMurry Services for Rita C. McMurry, age 84, of Winnsboro, were held Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Jason Lupo officiating. Interment followed in Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. McMurry was born on Sept. 28, 1924, and passed away on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her five children: Clinton McMurry of Monroe; Donna Alger of Grayson; Lawanda Elliott of West Monroe; Glyn McMurry of Sicily Island; Jaunece Johnson of Delhi; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was a resident of Chase, having raised her family in southern California where she lived for 50 years. Alfred 'Baby' Wilson Jr. Funeral services were held recently for Alfred "Baby" Wilson Jr. Mr. Wilson was born in Crowville on March 5, 1918 to the late Alfred and Daisy Hunt Wilson. He passed away on Sept. 27, 2008, at Deerfield Nursing Home in Delhi. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Mittie Gray Wilson. Survivors include five daughters: Mary K. Wilson, Daisy Jones, Roberta Wilson and Christine McDowell, all of Delhi; and Mary Mozeke of Castor, La.; 24 grandchildren, five of which he raised as his own: Vincent, Eric, Derrick, Mario, and Anita Wilson; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Wright of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bishop Tyree Turner Funeral services for Bishop Tyree Turner, 73, of Natalbany, La., were held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at Richardson Funeral Home in Hammond, La., with the Rev. Steven Hines officiating. Interment followed at Holy Gardens Cemetery in Hammond, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond. Mr. Turner was born Nov. 11, 1934 to Harrison and Georgia Mae Turner in Chase, La. He passed away of Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 in Hammond, La. Mr. Turner was raised in Chase, then moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he met and married Anne Bell Hines, May 1959. The family moved to Joliet, Illinois where he worked for General Motors as a pipefitter welder. After retirement, he moved to Natalbany until he passed away. He was preceded in death his mother, Georgia Mae Turner; sisters: Alice Turner, Willie Kinsey, Vertie C. Lloyd and Betty Turner; brothers; Leroy Edmond and Alonzo Turner. Survivors include his wife, Anna Bell; children: Vanessa A. Turner, Oakland, Calif.; Emily Turner, Dyer, Tenn.; Alice Justice, Madison, Wis.; Cathy White, Lana McDaniel, Bishop Turner Jr., Kevin Robinson, all of Joliet; Jennifer Robinson, Daniel Hines, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Millard Hines, Natalbany; Steven Hines, Shorewood, Illinois; his father, Harrison Turner JR.; sisters: Idella T. Doyle Williams Funeral services for Doyle Williams, 88, of Sicily Island, were held at New Hope Pentecostal Church, Sicily Island on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 with Rev. Chris Hamilton, Rev. Doyle Stockman, and Rev. Bill Cotton officiating. Interment followed at Heard Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mr. Williams was born March 25, 1920 in Pollock, La., and passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at LaSalle General Hospital in Jena. He was a resident of Sicily Island, a heavy equipment operator, and a member of the New Hope Pentecostal Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Thornhill) Williams; father, Pat Williams; mother, Laura (Garrett) Williams; grandfather, Elias Williams, member of the Confederate Cavalry for 3 1/2years in the Civil War; son, Mackey Williams; five brothers; five sisters, three grandchildren. Survivors include his son, John Williams of Sicily Island; daughter, Jean (Williams) Eubanks of Harrisburg; sister, Yvonne Monroe of Pollock. He was also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
