Elbert Atkins Sr.
Funeral services for Elbert Atkins Sr., 65, of Winnsboro were held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at True Gospel Baptist Church with the Rev. Herman Harris officiating.
Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mr. Atkins, a painter, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at North Monroe Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Atkins, Port Arthur, Texas; son, Steven Atkins, Houston, Texas; daughters: Lisa Atkins, Port Arthur; Freda Wilson and Cassandra Credit, both of Houston; brothers, Floyd Atkins, Winnsboro; Walter Atkins, Houston; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Corey Atkins, Rashard Atkins, Mickey D. Credit, Dajuan Atkins, Jaret Atkins, James Lee Wilson III.
Josephine Wroten Browning
Funeral services for Josephine Wroten Browning, 85, of Winnsboro, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 with Rev. Paul Perry officiating. Interment followed at Pine Grove Cemtery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Browning was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Franklin County, Miss., and passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker, and a member of the Lone Pine Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Wroten, mother, Audrey Wroten; sister, Francis Byrd; and brother, Donald Wroten.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, John Henry Browning Sr. of Winnsboro; and son, John Henry Browning Jr. of Winnsboro; and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers were Christopher Browning, David Browning Jr., Ira Browning, William Browning, Jerry Jones, and Ronnie Jones.

Lendon Ellis
Funeral services for Lendon Ellis, 77, of Jonesville, were held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at Monterey Christian Church in Monterey, with Rev. Ray Majors officiating, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Burial followed in the Wiley Cemetery in Monterey.
Mr. Ellis was born to the union of his parents Ernest and Mary Mott Ellis on June 18, 1931 in Zavalla, Texas, and passed from this life on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday. He was veteran of the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son: Lucky Clarence Ellis; one grandson; four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by two sons: Edward Ellis of Port Barre, La; Danny Wright of Jonesville; two daughters: Jennifer Tassin of Forest Hill, La; Telida Rutledge of Jonesville; one brother: Alfoncy Ellis of Jonesville; three sisters: Adell Paul and Joan Jones both of Jonesville, and Katie Harris of Monterey; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Pallbearers were Dallas Harris, Hank Wiley, Rusty Wiley, Buddy Dupuis, Steven Tassin, and Joshua Littleton.
Honorary pallbearers were Fred Ellis, Henry Rutledge Jr., and David Rutledge.

JoAnne Busby
Funeral services for JoAnne Busby, 76, of Winnsboro, were held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Marion Collier officiating. Interment followed at Crowville Masonic Cemetery.
Ms. Busby was born April 17, 1932 in Crowville to Joe and Mellie Parker Martin and she passed from this life on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at Richardson Medical Center in Rayville.
She was a member of Crowville First Baptist Church. She enjoyed looking for arrowheads and she loved her cats. She loved to work puzzlebooks. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two sons: Gary Busby and his wife Tammy of Brandon, Miss.; Richard Busby and his wife Joyce of Tallulah; five grandchildren: Chasity, Cody, Cory, and Harley Busby, and Eric Greer.
Pallbearers were Steve Humpheys, Steve Pylant, Benny Ray Red, Sammy Reynolds, and Forest Swartwout.

Lawrence E. Harrington
Funeral services for Lawrence E. Harrington, 70, of Crowville, were held Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at the Westside Baptist Church in Delhi with Rev. Steve Hillman officiating.
Burial followed at the Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.
Mr. Harrington was born on Aug. 29, 1938 and passed from this earth to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008.
He was a retired automobile mechanic, an Air Force Veteran and a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Delhi.
He is preceded in death by his father, Claude Lee Harrington, and a sister, Carolyn Rush.
Mr. Harrington is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nell B. Harrington of Crowville; one son, Mike "Spot" Weems of Crowville; three daughters, Tammy Stevens and husband Darrel of Morgan City; Melanie Lucas and husband Doug of Alexandria; and Loretta Mason of Natchez, Miss.; two granddaughters, Jodi Adams and husband Chris of West Monroe; and Mikala Weems of Winnsboro; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Hannah Adams; grandchildren, Chad, Sommer, Chris and Garret; his mother Betty Harrington of Clayton; two sisters, Catherine Fortunato and husband Joe of Natchez, Miss.; and Mary Howington and husband Gary of Pineville; and a special sister-in-law, Linda Antley of Crowville.
Pallbearers were Bobby Blossom, Jordy Blossom, Jamie Brown, Steve Brown, Gary Wilson, Harold Comeaux and Joe Brown.
Dennis Cecil Crain
Services for Dennis Cecil Crain, age 91, of Winnsboro, were held Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Apostolic Faith Chapel in Gilbert, with the Rev.'s Virgil Harris and George A. Boothe officiating. Interment followed in Myrtle Memorial Cemetery in Winnsboro, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Crain was born on April 19, 1917 and passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2008. A graduate of Fort Necessity High School in 1934, he pursued a career in agriculture and raising and showing quarter horses. He was faithful in his love for Jesus serving as Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years. He loved gospel music and was blessed with a wonderful voice which he used in his worship to the Lord. He was a member of Apostolic Faith Chapel in Gilbert, and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
He is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Angela Crain; one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Katie Cooper Crain; four children: Dennis Crain and wife, Rita; Dora Smith and husband, D.D.; Dallas "Frog" Crain and wife, Syble; Dorothy Oliver, and special friend, Wade Russell; seven grandchildren: Joey, Denise, Donice, Howard Dee, Jeff, Katherine, and Stephen; nine great-grandchildren; one sister: Helen Crain Lewis and husband, Ernest of West Monroe.
Pallbearers were Joey Oliver, Jeff Oliver, Howard Dee Smith, Stephen Smith, Thad Herron, Raymond Roberts, Tommy Lynn Crum, and Leo Boothe.

William Johnson
Funeral services for William Johnson, 81, of Winnsboro were held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at River of Life Church with the Rev. Herman E. Harris officiating.
Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Winnsboro, under the direction of Tennant Funeral Home, Rayville.
Mr. Johnson was born on Oct. 19, 1926 as the eldest of nine children to the union of Jim and Ella Johnson, in Winnsboro. He passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at his home. Mr. Johnson was a member of Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church. In 1945, he went into the armed services of the United States Army, where he served a tour of duty for more than two years.
He was preceded in death by his parent; a daughter, Linda Johnson; son, Jimmie Johnson Sr.; two brothers, John and Cleveland Johnson; sister, Annie Johnson; and a grandson, Terrance Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virgie Mae Johnson; seven daughters: LaVonne Johnson Williams, Loretta Johnson Whitting, Angela Johnson Haynes, DeWana Johnson Ferguson, Valerie Johnson, Lucy Johnson Scott, and Vanessa Johnson Robinson; three sons: Noah Wells, William Johnson and Benny Johnson; four sons-in-law: Calvin Williams II, Larry Whitting sr., Raymond Ferguson, and Marvin Robinson; three daughters-in-law: Patricia Wells, Rhonda Johnson, and Bobbie Johnson; 43 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brothers: James Johnson, Ernie Johnson, Joseph Johnson; sisters: Ella Mae Johnson and Iola Grimble.
Pallbearers were Michael Gibson II, Vincent Gibson, Leroy Scott Jr., Vondrick Johnson, Dann Mercer, Larry Whitting Jr., Darius Johnson, Kevin Wells, Willie Wells, Jimmie Johnson Jr., Jeremy Johnson, William Johnson Sr., Kenton Johnson, Marvin Robinson Jr., Noble Johnson, Johnathan Johnson, Noah Wells Jr., and Jamaal Wheatly.

James 'Buster' Robertson
Funeral services for James "Buster" Robertson, 72, of Wisner, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 with Rev. James Rider and Rev. Shannon Pullen officiating. Interment followed at South Central Cemetery, Wisner, under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro
Mr. Robertson was born Aug. 31, 1936 in Harrisonburg, La., and passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at Plantation Oaks Nursing Home in Wisner. He was a resident of Wisner, a truck driver, and a member of the Pentecostal Faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Robertson; father, Dock Robertson, mother, Dorothy McDonald Robertson; son, Ronald Gene Robertson Sr.; brothers: Vernon "Reese" Robertson and Larry Robertson; sisters: Ida Spillmon, Shirley Nugent and Dolly Osborne.
Survivors include his sons: Bobby Robertson of Monroe; James and his wife Susan Robertson of Dodson; David and his wife Sharon Robertson of Monroe; Jerry and his wife Becky Robertson of Kinder, La.; Terry and his wife Maria Robertson of Ocean Springs, Miss.; brothers: Billy and his wife Betty Robertson of West Monroe; Roy and his wife Sharon Robertson of Clarks, La.; Carter and his wife Ruby Robertson of Wisner; sister: Catherine and her husband Jimmy Graves of Pearl, Miss.; sister-in-law, Iola; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and ahost of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mrs. Walker died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
